Confirmed with Link: Alex Tuch signed 8x10.5m, 3rd round pick traded to Buffalo

  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
We'll see how the very same people shitting on this contract feel about it in the July 1st's in the next few years seeing the contracts teams are about to sign.

Teams will eventually adjust that the cap is going up another 10m next summer and likely another 10m year after that.

Good work. A+ if it's full trade protection for only through years 1-3 and limited after that.

Death, taxes, and HFBoards being shocked by UFA prices.

Why would adding wingers mean Strome is gone?

Because he’s becoming the weak link in the middle. PLD has a well defined role as a two-way player in the #2C slot, but I still don’t think Strome is the guy you want leading the offense if he doesn’t have Ovechkin next to him.

My thinking is that the next and final move is to either package Strome to upgrade that position. The roster is pretty complete aside from the Strome/Ovechkin roster spots.

Wasnt feeling the vibe earlier, but past actions have changed my mind.

Lets call Stevie and offer him Strome++ for Larkin.

I disagree that he's a weak link. He's been stapled to pylon Ovi and absolutely made the best of it. It's entirely unclear to me what he can be with different wingers. Which is not to say I'm opposed to moving him if there's a good reason to do so, but I could also see him benefitting from being part of a more dynamic line.

Holy shit lol, I assume we will have money to sign all of our young guys in the next few years?
The cap is projected to keep rising rapidly for the forseeable future, so yeah. And I don't think, with CapFriendly in house especially, they'd make a deal that would hamstring them too badly. They are probably hoping to land a Big Fish centerman next year and want flexibility for that and for Lenny/Hutson/Pro....

10.5 is a lot, but the management sees a window in the next 2-4 seasons to contend before our current core ages out of their prime. We have the cap space to make the move today to capture the last few years of Tuch’s prime.

This contract is likely to become a problem as we need to re-sign our young stars in a few years, but the rising cap helps mitigate the impact quite a bit. Still, it will create cap problems at the end of the contract, but that’s a problem for another day.

A $10.5 million contract will account for 10.10% of the NHL salary cap in the upcoming 2026-27 season.

As the salary cap increases over the next 8 years, that same $10.5 million fixed cap hit will take up a progressively smaller percentage of a team's total cap space.

$10.5M Cap Hit Percentage Breakdown

NHL SeasonProjected Salary CapCap Percentage of $10.5M
2026-27$104,000,00010.10%
2027-28$113,500,0009.25%
2028-29$123,000,0008.54%
2029-30$131,000,0008.02%
2030-31$139,000,0007.55%
2031-32$147,000,0007.14%
2032-33$155,000,0006.77%
2033-34$164,000,0006.40%

To look at it another way, a $10.5 million contract in the 2033–34 season feels like a $6.11 million contract today because the total salary cap pool will be so much larger.

I'd like to see Strome between Leno and Cristall, but that's probably not going to happen.
