Value of: Alex Romanov

Mayfields term given style is the only issue. With the cap hits where they are at now and going forward, these are easy contracts for value.
The term might make trades tricky though. A team has to be interested in keeping them for a majority of it but who knows. It’ll be an interesting summer once the hockey ops group is in place and has a plan.

This is my opinion but I think if you took Will Borgen as a comparable of 4 years and 4+ million, I don’t see how these guys aren’t attractive in a trade market.

So seems like some of us want to trade

Barzal, Horvat, Dobson, Pulock, Pageau, Sorokin, Romanov, etc.

If that is the case how the hell will we get over the cap. lol

Clearly the Islanders trade them for everyone else’s garbage and the team becomes a perpetual repeat of the 08-09 team.

I don't think anyone wants to trade all of them but clearly there's some disagreement over who is available and how many might get traded.

If we were doing a big retool both Romanov and Dobson would be the 2 defensemen I keep unless we got an amazing return(ie not picks and prospects unless it was an A+ prospect)

I’d move Pageau from that list. Ideally they need to keep the Barzal/Horvat/Holmstrom/Romanov/Dobson group as the “veteran core” and move forward with a retool of the remainder somehow, someway.

Injury history is the only factor that might scare some teams.
It’s the only reason why I want to get rid of Pelech. I don’t want to get rid of Pulock. Then for Mayfield, I’m a big TDA guy and with Dobson, Pulock and Tony on the right I think it’s natural to move on from Mayfield if you can.

Exactly my thinking. TDA can fill a short term role as a RHD partner for Romanov. Then you figure out how to adjust the left side and who to pair with Dobson and Pulock. Possibly Pulock and George and then Dobson with Schaefer down the line (If he’s taken) but until then a short term quality LHD stop gap.
Essentially if the new GM is smart, they can pull off some magic and find takers for most of, if not all of Pelech, Mayfield, Engvall, Duclair and possibly Pulock. That would be the start of a retool for this team with the youth being a year or two away to come in and start to make progress at the pro level.

Obviously you move Pelech and Pulock before Romanov and Dobson, but the first two have full NTCs (Pelech's becomes a 16 team on 7/1) and the latter two are RFA's.

The Isles are in some kind of a retool/rebuild. They need picks/prospects and to clear out some salary. If you can't move the guys with NTCs then the RFAs they have make the most sense

I’m all for going into next season with:
Romanov-TDA
???-Dobson
George-Pulock
??? (Boqvist?)

As the defensive core next year. Move out Pelech and Mayfield for a futures return. Ideally find a stopgap LHD (possibly as part of the trade return) on a 1-2 year deal for the 2nd pair so George isn’t pushed up and in over his head. Assuming Schaefer is the pick, the additional year also lets him play big minutes and dominate in the OHL for an additional year instead of this team throwing him right in and getting another Connolly/Bailey repeat of stunted development.

In the time it takes for Schaefer to get to his prime (which theoretically represents our peak competitive window), Romanov will be 30 and trending downward.

Obviously it's not a trade we need to make, just exploring options now that our outlook has changed so dramatically overnight
30-36 are prime years for defensemen. There is also great value in insulating and apprenticing young players. I wouldn’t move romanov if i was an islanders fan

Outside of a team offering an insane deal of a guy who’s too good to pass up, Romy isn’t leaving. Even if a few fans try to offer a mid 1st round pick and some mediocre prospect with another pick as a bonus.

I guess I’ll hold off on the offer from Montreal then 😆

8th OA and a hope that the pick will become as good as Romanov one day.

As someone who's seen every minute of every Islanders game he's played, Alex Romanov is vastly overrated by people here. Eighth overall? In a heartbeat. Romanov is a defensive d-man who's not big and is an average skater. He's gotta be paired with someone who can move the puck because he can't do much with the puck on his stick in his own zone. There's the barest hint of some kind of offensive talent in there, but for the three seasons he's been on the island, it's often nowhere to be seen.

He can have good stretches of play where you think he's turned a corner, but then it comes crashing down. It's also not a real coincidence that his best play often lines up when he's paired with Dobson at HIS best.

You mean I can trade him and get the eighth overall? Sign me up. Just made my day.

Since he's not putting a lot of points, he ain't going to get the big bag
He's young, reliable defensive defenseman that can play on either left or right side, and he's hyper physical
Great second pair dman that can go on top line from time to time

If he's available, he'd fetch a 1st + at a minimum, maybe multiple 1sts
Edmonton would be all over this for sure, unless Romanov decide he's worth 8M or something crazy
