having 0 goals in 38 games is not a good thing, but if you watched Sikura play you saw a kid that did show consistent effort, was capable in his own zone and was actually creating some offense for his linemates. I think everyone of us are saying this is make or break for him and he needs to bury some biscuits here, but simply going by stats is not telling the whole story with this kid. the pressure is on and he knows it..he has too many bodies now to compete with, he has to produce or his sits in the farm. do not dismiss him based off of 0 goals is the point some are making. Sharpie didn't light the world on fire either and Sharpie is/was a goal scorer..Sikura is not.

/\ Actually Sikura is a pretty good passer/playmaker when he gets the space - however his smurfness and style makes it difficult for him to create his own space.

He is shifty and skates well enough where he should learn with time.

Not sure why this became the Sikura thread, but he's one of the bigger enigmas entering the season. I really don't know what to make of him.

It's quite humorous for a guy that likely tops out as a good 4th liner to get this this much attention and cause so much debate.

Alex Nylander is ONLY 21, has steadily and consistently improved in the AHL and up to the NHL. 4 points in 12 games doesn't sound like much but a .33 PPG winger at 21 (yes I know, small sample) is nothing to scoff at. If he had not been an 8th overall and not cost what he cost, any hockey fan would be ecstatic to have him as a prospect.

Is he better than his brother right now? No! Willy is on another tier. But Alex is also younger, and his playing style takes longer to peak.

If Alex was 1.5-3 years older and was putting up those stats, yeah I'd feel like you got fleeced. But 21 is very young developmentally and for his playing style and he's got SO much to grow into and has CONSISTENTLY IMPROVED.

Honestly, I was sad to give him up. He has above average but not quite elite speed (few players really do) his shot and especially hockey sense is extremely underrated. I don't see someone who's not trying, he's a player that only plays best with some confidence and has lacked much. He has the ability to accurately pass the puck to the right person at the right time, and can get the pass through.

Mittelstadt was on Sheary's line basically all season but it wasn't until Nylander joined their line when Sheary had consistently been able to get more chances when they've been together. No coincidence he added value to that line. NO ONE on the second line could get it to Sheary before Nylander. (It was extremely frustrating to watch). He's not an elite player but he is an elite prospect, to put it that way.

He's got ALL the tools EXCEPT physicality, the sky is the limit for him. He looked lost and borderline uninterested his first two years because he was rushed and his confidence was shot. He's made an effort in the AHL this season to be better defensively. What I noticed that last season was that he was the first player on the back check when possession in the O-zone changed to the other team while anticipating the play/transition very well. His father was an NHLer, and Alex has elite hockey sense and instincts. He was taught the game right.

I see no reason why he wouldn't get at least 50 points if he started on Eichel's wing this season. I had him pegged on the first line. The thing about Alex though, is that he can only produce with other elite talent. A very complementary player and will probably never drive a line any time soon. If he's with Kane he can conceivably get 50-60 pts realistically within at least a couple years or soon as next year with Chicago's excellent development program.

Did I mention he moves through traffic well, is shifty and nimble, skates very well with elite acceleration, is very hard to get the puck off of him, he always seems to make the right plays, is one of the better young stick-handlers in the entire NHL and has an elite hockey sense and pedigree?

He just should have went to juniors his d+1 season to bulk up and learn professional hockey.

There is NO reason why he still can't be better than his brother, as crazy as that may seem now for people who've bought into the Nylander sucks narrative. Some players just need longer to develop. It's not that he's a bust, he just hasn't proved that he's not one yet. I feel he will be a very good if not elite player.

This will be a classic "win-win" trade.

Who the Sabres got improves them long-term too. You had a lot of good young d-men.

Sorry for this randomness I was just super bored to kill time and wanted to know how Hawks fans think of him, I'd honestly be surprised if he doesn't get 50-70 pts once in his career if he's playing with elite talent. He has PPG potential ceiling on a top line.

Appreciate your insight. Thanks for stopping by. Most Hawks fans will be keeping tabs on Joker too. Hopefully, the trade turns out to be a huge win-win for both clubs.

Nylander and Sikura are both terrible and have no future at the NHL level.

I don't see either cracking opening night roster either, especially if Perlini gets signed.

Is Alex calder eligible?

From records.NHL.com

Eligibility: To be eligible for the Calder Memorial Trophy, a player cannot have played more than 25 games in any single preceding season nor in six or more games in each of any two preceding seasons in any major professional league. Beginning in 1990-91, a player must not have attained his 26th birthday by Sept. 15 of the season in which he is eligible.

Nylander played 12 last year, 3 the year before, and 4 the year before that. He’s also just 21, so I think he is Calder eligible
