I just think it’s interesting most everyone was so high on Jokiharju and wanted him on the team this year and all of last year and was our 2nd/3rd best Dman, but soon as he’s traded it all shifts.
I don't think you're wrong, but like many pointed out, his performance dipped after Q got fired.

Not really. Why dwell on it? Better to wish Nylander the best and wait and see if he can reach his potential in Chicago.

Yeah, I agree. Not everyone, but a lot of people all of the sudden soured on him because Stan traded him.

My stance has not changed at all.

I don't think he's a bad player at all. On the contrary, I think he's a good player, and I would say he probably ends up as a very good #3 type of guy. Don't know if he ever ends up a top pair guy, but if he does, well, we obviously lost this trade. For the time being, I'm fine with waiting to see what Nylander does, and waiting to see what Joker does, before I make a determination on if the trade was won or lost.

As would any reasonable poster. I still like Joker, and think at the end of the day we will lose the trade, but Joker isn't crap all of the sudden and Nylander is a top 6 option, like some seem to be implying.

I think there's a very good chance Joker is the better player. He also has a redundant skill set for Chicago. I think there's a very good chance Chicago is better off over the next several years because of the trade too.

Isn't that an okay outcome?

Yes. Even if Joker is a better player, if Nylander is good, and helps this team win some more Cups, then I couldn't care less what Joker actually becomes. :thumbu:

I don't know if there's a very good chance Joker turns out the better player. Fine with good chance though. Agree with your other points.

Some are just naturally positive which is OK. I just don’t know why a guy who’s AHL numbers are average is being stapled into a top 6 role w/ proven NHL scorers. Like I’ve always said, I was ok with moving Joki.

It is a gamble for sure. Kelly and Bowman stated that not all of these D would play for the Hawks and I believe they think Mitchell and Boqvist have a higher ceiling. The risk is on the Hawks but if it works it will be a good trade for the team as they lack top 6 forward talent in the pipeline.

His production in the AHL is similar to Filip Zadina year 1. Interesting piece of info.

He's in his third year in the same league and Zadina has outproduced him this year, while also scoring more goals, than Nylander has in any year.

I am higher on Joker than many, I think the kid reaches top pair dman status..Not a fan of the trade then not really now, but we will see how it all plays out..

I didn’t realize you were that high on Joker. I don’t think he ends up being an anchor to a good top pairing, but he ends up being a very good second pairing guy.

I think it is in him to be a top pairing guy - I viewed him as a less physical Hammer, and peak Hammer was most definitely a top pairing dman..the game is changing a bit as well regardless of the massive blue liners we saw in the finals for both teams, skill and speed is now what every team covets - Joker will not top out in either category as elite, but I think he just does enough things above average and will continue to evolve/get stronger and round out into a really solid #2 dman...who knows how the kid handles this trade, hope it motivates him as I always liked him and wish him well over there.

I think Nylander starts in the AHL. Too many wingers, and while he has terrific individual skills like stickhandling and shooting, he is not a good enough hockey player (yet). He's even struggled at the AHL level.

Let him first be the best player on his AHL team before calling him up.

EA seem to like A Nylander a little to much. I have not had that bug before.

Sure, but if Zadina doesn't produce next year in the AHL then he too will be looked at differently. Not good when you don't improve year 1 to year 3 (obviously).

How has he not improved year 1 to year 3? I listed these numbers back in the pages at some point, or maybe in the trade thread.

Because he was playing in the AHL at 18, 19, and 20 years old, and wasn't ready for it? Because Buffalo is terrible at developing players? Because Buffalo is a terribly run organization? Because he had some injuries?

He played 65 games as an 18 year old and had 28 points. (35 point pace)
He played 51 games as a 19 year old, and had 27 points. One less point in 14 less games. (43 point pace)
He played 49 games as a 20 year old, and had 31 points in 49 games. Four more points in 2 less games.(51 point pace)

He also played 12 games for Buffalo last season, where they said he played well in his call-up, and had 4 points in 12 games.

It sure looks like, when healthy, he is progressively getting better, year to year. At least based upon the stats.
