Considering that Sergachev was taken right after him, that would have been a good start. MacAvoy a few spots later. On the bright side for Buffalo, Edmonton and Vancouver made far bigger mistakes with their picks in that draft.

I think it was Berube deciding Alex was a bad influence. W Nylander makes way more adjustments while looking like Alex though. I swear I saw Alex standing on the spot for 15 seconds at a time and do stutter starts because he was unsure if he should commit. He plays like one of those guys that doesn't trust his instincts and the NHL doesn't leave time for a guy to be reasoning it out.

I thought someone might put in a claim on Nylander just based on how he finished last season but I’m not surprised no one did. His career has been pretty underwhelming.

Well he is waiver exempt for the season now. If he works hard and they need a body he could come back.
