Alex Newhook had 12 goals and 27 points in his final 39 games. That is a 25-goal and 57-point pace over 82 games. Those are more than adequate second-line numbers.
Got this info from an article by Grant McCagg. I wasn't aware of those numbers.
Alex Newhook missed 27 games and came back to an abysmal Habs team without Dach and Dvorak at center.

He played with Gallagher and Armia as a 2nd line center and put up those numbers...

He started winning faceoffs at the end and did better but he could play easier minutes this year next to Dach and Laine.

He was one of the fastest forwards last year, he has a shot and wins his fair share of board battles. For 2.9m a year for 3 more years, I don't get how that guy is not a bigger storyline for our fans.

The forgotten player. Everyone talks about Laine, Kirby coming back from injury, Slafkovsky progression from last season but nobody mentions Newhook.

I was impressed with the way Newhook finished off the season last year. People are sleeping on him, I think he will impress especially since he will get the chance to play with quality players instead of having to carry Gallagher.

He's gonna be lost when Buttman gets his dream of expanding the league even further, no way we will be able to protect him with all the other forwards and D we'd have to protect.

He’s got a 20-30g, 50-60 point season in him at some point, I’m sure of it. Maybe a couple. Outside chance of ~70 point potential as well. I was saying this since before last season too.

If Alex Newhook, Dach and Laine have a good year, and not injured, Habs can be in the mix.
absolutely. Newhook isn't a scrub, and I think he handles himself fine in the trenches. He's got a great shot, and he's of course blazing fast. I think he's going to create a lot of space for Laine and Dach with passing back to them after gaining the zone. Those three are all excellent at zone entry as well, so carrying or dump chase is covered. And because so much attention will be put on defending Laine's shot, Dach can easily fake and send the puck over to Newy if teams cheat. Being a righty, Dach is in a position to send one-timers on either side, just like Suzuki with CC/Slaf.

I think Roy probably better fit on 2nd line. He played better with offensive players in past. High hockey smarts, good two way. Like Newhook to get tons of time to be center also. Will have more value in contending years. Also makes more speed if Anderson is healthy. Good on forecheck. Dvorak centers 4th line. Evans to his wing. He worked well with Monahan last year. Dvorak gets thrown out at more crucial times than anybody I ever seen in past.

I'm probably part of the minority, but I actually preferred him at C than at W last year.

I thought both Roy-Newhook-Armia were dangerous last year. Even Gallagher-Newhook-Armia were good when Roy went down.

So my thinking heading into this season is if Roy-Newhook-Armia were our 3rd line, we'd be able to roll three lines that come in waves.

But we'll see how Laine-Dach-Newhook do. Newhook is certainly at least 6th best offensive player, so it makes sense to try him on the second line.

The habs probably won't be able to afford his next contract and he gets traded, and is replaced by Hage/Mesar/Xhekaj/Rohrer/Thorpe/Eriksson/upcoming pick/etc.

How long did he play W? 1 game?

Or did I miss something.

Most of pre-season and those two games on Dach's wing + many games with Suzuki before his injury.

Then it was all C after his injury.

I found him rather invisible on the wing. I know a lot of people like him on the wing because of his shot coming down the wing, but the habs had no transition offense last year.

I missed him on Suzuki wings. Who were the other C?

He scored 2 goals in one game on Dach's wing. I found that pretty not too bad.

I really like his lines with Roy and Armia. Which will happens next year anyway so you'll have your wish.

Moneyhands, Dvorak and Evans.

But I think he could do well with Dach and Laine who can both hold the puck that extra second and catch him in full stride.
