there's minimal negativity on Newhook - i haven't seen anything but positive comments. maybe if you're spending your time on Facebook.

also is anyone saying we should bring in 3 more guys like him?

perplexing post.

Read a few posts in here probably a bad sample.

As per the “we shouldn’t have 3 more guys like him” this is just my opinion not responding to anyone.

There is negativity around him more in the sense that people don't know how to properly understand the actual hit rate of the picks we traded away to get him.

Great trade and great player. Think of him like our Killorn.
I'll definitely take him at his average best versus any second round roll of the dice, that's for sure. The actually chances of drafting and developing someone better are pretty darn slim.

He's playing extremely well. His game at centre has really improved the last couple of weeks.

Too bad he's going to get bumped from PP1 when Dach returns because he's absolute ace in that bumper position. He knows that role so well.

Until Hutson is ready, could we go:

Dach
Caufield Newhook Slaf
Suzuki

I think MSL likes Matheson too much. But I would be interested to see this.

Man he showed me. I didn’t think he was much of a centre at first, he seemed destined for the wing with his style of play. But he’s been electric.
I also thought he'd end up a winger. Probably does at the start of next year to pair him up with Dach but it gives us a lot more flexibility going forward, wether to deal with injuries or to spread the offense more evenly.

Dach's injury end up being a blessing in the sense that it gave Newhook an extended attempt at centre he wouldnt have gotten and I doubt Slaf gets to ride with Suzuki and Caufield all season long/.

Yep. Absolutely. Just as long as Dach isn’t injury ridden long term

I only read here that he's a winger and can\t play center. lol Seems to be doing alright in most peoples books.
His play at centre has really grown quite a bit in the last couple weeks specifically.

It’s weird to be a Habs fan right now and see multiple young players have their games progress in the same season. Not used to this feeling.

Pacing for 50 pts if he wasn’t injured, last 30 years we’ve only drafted 10 forwards to reach that and about half of them only hit it once or twice

Really good player. He was my original pick for the 2019 draft , not thinking Caufield had any possibility of slipping to us. I think many of us felt that way that year.

I like the way WTK put it, think of him as our Killorn and the hit rate on the picks we gave up for him would have likely amounted to either nothing or a lesser player.

He's looked pretty decent in that 2C role and he's gotten better in the dot. He's giving us much needed depth and security given Dach's injury woes.

Great trade and great player. Think of him like our Killorn.

Thinking of it more like two of Beck, Mailloux, Ylonen, Romanov, Poehling, Juulsen, Scherbak, McCarron, De La Rose, Collberg, etc. helps.

Even considering strong picks in that range, the trade makes sense for Montreal. It also helps that Newhook has been much better after returning from injury than he was before.

He really changed my opinion of him as well. His play improved significantly throughout the year, and even at C. His speed backs up defenders and opens ice for his wingers. When Dach is back, i still see him as a winger but its not final IMO. He could conceivably play C on Dach's line.

50 point pace playing with scrubs. Hughes made a good trade.

Not to take away from what Newhook's doing, but Armia has been lights out on that 2nd line and Gallagher's compete is really helping them out.
True but the guy is racking up points since coming back playing with rookie Joshua Roy, a guy who started the year in the AHL in Armia and the dead corpse of Gallagher.

I get it that Gallagher and Armia are playing good hockey by their standard but none of them are 2nd line players, not even remotely close.

To be fair there's a fairly strong case to be made that Armia has looked like a 2nd line winger for the majority of this season but I do get your point

Simple proper management that values teaching at all levels and hiring the top talent to do that with the players .

Crazy when you think how we as one one of the richest teams in the nhl were managed like a run down corner store
