With that said...............

Caufield and Suzuki are not 18 years old......

Newhook had a great NCAA season for sure.

Perhaps he was rushed a bit in the NHL.

Perhaps playing on a contender isn't the best for development and he needs more support/time/freedom.
Yeah, there's definitely potential there. But again, does he add something to the Habs that they didn't have before? If he's actually improves enough to be a first line forward then yes. If not...

Yeah..........

I hope what they see, is what pans out..........

On the surface getting a 5ft10 winger for 1st, 2nd, and prospect is dicey.

Can you imagine he doesn't sign...gets an offer sheet for 2mil and we get compensated with a 3rd round pick.

Honestly more i think of this move the less i like it. We had so many prospects on the pipeline ready to make the jump, good prospects and we could of used those 2 picks to acquire another Subban or a Pleckasex that could potentially have helped us within 2-3 years.

He better be good Hughe

Nope.

Some bad reviews on that side.

That said, he's young af, and even Dach played like a little baby when he first got here, then matured into a MAN....

Oh really?

How tall was the guy who won Playoffs MVP?

You're right. Hockey's played by one guy. The rest of the team meant nothing.

I can but it requires a lot of imagination.

Habs would obviously just match.
Even at 4.2 we would only be getting a second round pick. At 6.4 mil, its a 1st and third...

this was an absolute brain dead move, we massively overpaid.

Colorado had no space for him, he was worth 2 mid second round picks on a ordinary year... this was a big foul by Hughes.

Unless there's some sort of secret deal they made with Colorado and one of the teams drafting 2-4.

If we don't see Hughes moving up tomorrow (or down for that matter), there's a problem.

Let's see what Newhook becomes.....

Let's see what happens with #31 and #37 too..

Time will tell, rating this trade now would be absurd..

I do not necessarily like the payment but I guess we will see. What I do wonder is what we do with Dvorak. I would not mind seeing a line of Newhook, Evans and Heineman. Tons of speed, a lefty and a righty to take face off. I think it could work.

Obviously someone is going to pay Newhook 4m+ just like Mesar was a 200 pts OHL player

Steep price to pay, but who cares. Hes a player that I really liked. Unsure what happened in Colorado but it seems like Avs fans gave up on him.
With a 4 mil offer sheet it would have costed us 1x 2nd round.

This move stinks already

We could have offer sheet him 4 mil and only pay a second....

Hughes dropped the ball on this one.

No im talking about today's value. Montreal could have just offer sheet him they would have paid way less.

This trade made no sense.

You can't force a player to accept an offer sheet. You also need to wait until July 1st at which point Newhook is already traded to another team.

Hughe was Newhook's agent and he's unsigned.

No one would have traded for him if they couldn't sign him.

You got to admit this was a dumb move to over pay this much

Colorado would just match it and trade him next year. They wouldn't lose him for a 2nd when Ladeskogs 7mil cap is on ltir anyways so they have the room.
