Habs added another forward....something has to give...way too many forwards with also a few youngsters deserving a look.

Should be an interesting battle between Slaf, RHP, Farrell, Heineman, Roy, Ylonen. Regardless of what we do with Hoffman, Armia, Dvorak, we are cluttered. Maybe Laval is stronger and we don't rush guys so it might be for the best in the end.

But yeah, I hear you. More moves to come. I wonder what people project as our line-up without Dvorak, Hoffman, Armia? I would assume one of them stays and two are gone. If Dach plays center, this roster lacks Right handed shot wingers. I have two of them on the same line below but not sure we go in that direction

Caufield / Suzuki / Anderson
RHP / Dach / Newhook
Slaf / Monahan / Gallagher
Farrell / Evans / Heineman

Pezzetta

Is today's pick one of our last chances to get a real legit star?

I don't believe so. Dubois is not coming and it's very possible we trade guys like Hoffman, Armia, Dvorak, and Eddy. When you look at what is left, I see another situation as last season with so many younger guys learning on the job. Bottom 5-10 or 8-12 range. You can hit with picks like that.

As a draft junkie, you are obviously sad to see those picks go..

but Newhook was such a draft crush and I'd say contextually, his numbers in Colorado are really promising.

Great finisher, left shot, high end skater.. that adds a lot of pace and dimension up front. Historically our picks in those ranges have yielded as Poehling and Mathieu Carle.. on occasion it's been PK Subban so you never know, but you also have to consider where we are in our build.

They want to make good on the Suzuki/Dach/Caufield window so adding talent in that range without taking too much from the pick cupboard is still a really smart play and why not do what you did with Dach?

I would think that this opens the door for a trade down with Philly.

If you can turn 5 into 7 and 22, and turn Chiarot and a 2nd in Newhook? Leave with Reinbacher/Dvorsky/Leonard and someone at 22? How could you hate that?
Nice team but no elite talent.

Don't know that much about Newhook but I like the deals based on what I've read. Hopefully it pans out and we get at least a solid 3rd liner out of it which I'd consider a win based on current info - the draft picks and/or fairbrother becoming decent NHLers are pretty low probability.

We do have a ton of forwards:

Suzuki
Caufield
Slafkovsky
Gallagher
Anderson
Monahan
Newhook
Hoffman
RHP
Dvorak
Armia
Dach
Evans
Pitlick (AHL)
Pezzetta (AHL?)

I can see Farrell, Heineman starting in the AHL along with Roy and Kidney.
I think they may pay a low pick to get rid of Hoffman. This team is young and things can start to fall into place, but Hoffman doesn't fit anywhere and we don't need a pouting veteran in the room.

Monahan Suzuki Caufield
Newhook Dach Anderson
Slafkovsky Dvorak Gallagher
RHP Evans Armia
Pezzetta

Is a fine lineup for the coming year. With injuries and movement, RHP won't be on the 4th all the time and would get opportunities. Pitlick can be sent to the AHL.

I do find it a bit funny that we're all at least a bit disappointed to lose these picks.

Because with those picks, we have faith that our management team could find a potential star.

But when our management team finds a player that they feel easily justifies the use of those picks, we're disappointed. Because we know who the player sort of is at the NHL level.

Its some sort of fallacy that has to do with lottery tickets or gambling. Somebody should define it.

Same roster + Newhook should provide another top 5 pick. Team was 15th in conference pretty much all year even with all of Guhle, Caufield, Slaf playing.

Columbus improved way more and will get a better player.
Last 4 seasons Philly finished with 30 more pts and ahead of Habs 3 out of last 4 (behind by 1 point in covid season with Habs playing the lousy Canadian teams)

Not catching Buf, Wsh or Ott. Detroit maybe?

Same roster had half a team of rookies who will improve. If our man games lost gets better there's no way we're last in the conference.

Philly will be last, no doubt. But Habs should be next.
Columbus had huge injuries, less than 15 games from Werenski, Voracek, Bean. Boqvist 46.
Philly went without 1 lousy game from Couturier, Atkinson and Ellis. Habs guys played 40+ games Except Monahan.
Just imagine if Montambeault goes down…

I'm not too sure of that. We should be better on the ice than last season, but our division is stacked and I don't see us leapfrogging anyone next season. Maybe a team in the Metro finishes with fewer points (Philly looks like they're cleaning house).

Guess it's how you view it but I actually see this as the year they try breaking up Suzuki and Caufield, personally think Suzuki and Newhook will complement each other and think Dach and Slaf will make more space for Caufield

Newhook - Suzuki - Monahan
Slafkovsky - Dach - Caufield
Anderson - Dvorak - Gallagher

PP1
Suzuki - Dach - Monahan - Caufield and Matheson
PP2
Slafkovsky - Newhook - Anderson - RHP and Barron

Yeah why not. I would be ok with that. Dach is a great passer and Caufield's size would be better compensated with those two. Newhook would massively benefit from playing with a guy as smart as Suzuki. Seasons are long, they may experiment along the way.
