Pretty team friendly, he's definitely buying into the ''prove yourself'' opportunity. If he stays as he is, it becomes a real bargin by next year. If he gets a lot better, it become an absolute steal. Looking forward to seeing what he can do with that motivation now .

Thanks for proving my point, those are all dumb contracts too!!!!

Last season, for players that played at least 70 games, there were 31 players that scored between 30-39 points. 12 players on that list have a higher cap hit than Newhook.

On the entire list of 31 players, only 4 are younger than Newhook. All four are still on their entry-level deals.

Your post is awful and you should be ashamed of yourself.

Similar price and upside to Kakko, Cates, Glass and Dube.

Now he has to prove he's worth it.

Its been good seeing how Hughes negotiates has been refreshing compared to Bergevin. Hughes has been signing good value contracts compared to Bergevin (particularly during his final year).
I agree contracts that can be moved if need be. I can't remember how many times I've used the term "painting himself into a corner" to describe a number of Bergevin's moves I know it was more than twice and all for different issues.

30 point players are not difficult to find, you don't need to pay one 2.9m
The deal with this type of contract is to try to predict future role on the team for those players, instead of paying for what they've done in the past. We will see if that's a strategy that pays.

If it was a two-year contract I would have been ok with it but with a four-year at that price is excellent. As a baseline it's 100K per point scored, we are getting a 30 points player with upŝide for that price is good. It's a low risk good reward type situation.

What's worst? A troll or the fishes that falls for the bait?

Good signing for the next Yvan Cournoyer. Roadrunner!
ahahahah... I still remember that goal when Cournoyer changed side to completely fool the goalie and scooooooore! I've met the guy several times. Very nice person.

Newhook deal is a solid signing IMO. I trust he will reach 40 pts this year and maybe develop in a 50-55 pts player down the road. I like the way things are shaping up.

Do yourself a favor and put him on your IL. That post his on par with the rest of his "contributions" to this wonderful website.
I've been liberally using the IL since the draft and I love it! This place seems so much more intelligent.

Very happy with the potential of this deal. Hopefully MSL can help Newhook hit another level this season.

It's so funny looking at the Bergevin deals compared to the Hughes deals. Having Dach and Newhook there with Dvorak, Armia, Hoffman, and Anderson still floating about. Dach and Newhook combined make less than Gallagher.

Bergie’s ammo was to give big contracts to support players to distract from the fact that he couldnt add to his core.

If he becomes a 20 goal guy he's worth it. If he becomes a 40 point player he's worth it. If he becomes 25/50 the contract is a steal.

If Newhook ends up a 15-18 goal winger who only puts up 30-35 points on the third line? It's a disappointment but that contract is perfectly fine for that.
