There is always that one guy...

Anyways, what an excellent contract. Basically minimal risk with huge upside. It really seems to be paying off having an ex agent as a gm.

What's worst? A troll or the fishes that falls for the bait?

Good signing for the next Yvan Cournoyer. Roadrunner!

Hughes trying to imitate MB giving out dumb contracts?

Why would you give an unproven kid a 4 year deal?

This contract reminds me of the Drouin signing

Newhook has done nothing to earn 2.9m

Dvorak is a 30 point player getting paid more than Newhook
Armia is a 30 point player getting paid more than Newhook.
Gallagher is now effectively a 30 point player getting paid more than Newhook.

All three players are older, as well. Sorry man, your post is one of the rare ones on this board that are objectively dumb.

Thanks for proving my point, those are all dumb contracts too!!!!

Terrible post this is nothing like Drouin. $2.9m is a very good price for a middle six forward. Drouin was trash and got $5.5m.

All 3 had proven more, or way more than Newhook when they signed those contracts.

Solid risk contract.

Yeah this is a contract projecting what he'll do during the contract versus what he did previously.

It's a Dach-like bet on a yet unproven player. If Newhook can't take it to the next level, I don't like the contract. If he can I do.

At first glance it seems like a solid deal.

Under 3M and still a RFA at the end of the deal.

I expect him to do well under MSL but even if he only improves slightly and tops out as a 3rd liner, the money is fine. I think he'll be more than that, but that could be seen as one worst case scenario.

Less than contracts given to Armia, Hoffman and Byron.

/end thread

Just to add my 2 cents, I think this is a solid deal. I do think he is already a middle-6 capable forward and top-6 potential is there though I think he’s going to top out as a second liner, which if he can achieve in the next couple years gives us a steal of a contract before it runs out. If he doesn’t break out, this is still an acceptable deal.

If he can't he's at the likely running cost of a 3rd liner probably producing like a 3rd liner.

He's cheap and should be effective enough that if he doesn't get past his 30ish point pace with more ice time the Habs can include him in a deal for an upgrade and the other team likely won't have reservations about him being "too much"
