Bonuses count against the cap. http://capgeek.com/player/2339
How Gally isn't getting at least 18 minutes per game, I'll never know.
But I'm probably a biased Habs fan..what do I know..?![]()
true, my mistake, i didnt look at the performance bonus
But how often a rookie touch all the 2.3M bonus?
I don't even think it's that difficult really...if he comes to camp and shows he's good enough to be on this team, then he should be on it.
Sitting in the stands doesn't mean he can't improve as a player...see Tyler Seguin.
Considering the type of prospect Galchenyuk is, the best place for his development SHOULD be in the NHL (that's assuming that the coaching staff is good enough for him to develop) as long as he shows he's capable of playing at this level.
If he starts out strong then fades out...he can still improve as a player, as opposed to abusing 15-20 yr olds in the OHL.
Not sure what you mean by "after this" but I've been thinking that all along, whether it's before this or after this. Let's not repeat the Latendresse mistake, or the Ryan Johanssen mistake in Columbus. Half a season more in junior after missing a season isn't going to hurt him, quite the contrary.
It is a possibility. We do have only 12 forwards and that's including Nokelainen. So a 13th will be in order. And frankly, nobody but Dumont in Hamilton deserve that spot. Just showing you are good enough, you can stretch that concept all you want. Latendresse showed he was good enough real young, yet was sent back. We keep doing it. Did it help them? Did we stopped them from their progression. Tough call. Of course, if he was 3 goals a game every preseason game....well if you send him back, you will be killed in the media so they won't do it. So it remains to be seen. There are positives to be taken out of this even if we happen to suck again this year.
Agreed...well said
But Galchenyuk is not Latendresse...and even more importantly, the staff is completely different now than it was then.
But all this is moot until Galchenyuk comes to came and earns the right for this to even be a discussion.
That's the first step

Don't quote me on this but I think Therrien was the Head Coach when Latendresse tried to make the Habs at a young age![]()
We won't because it was Julien![]()
Therrien did play Staal when he was young however
It's honestly a tough call. First instinct would be to say to Gally to get back in Sarnia, be dominant and win it all. Then, you also have that thought that this season will always have an asterisk beside it no matter what happens so shouldn't we use that 48-game schedule as a preseason for when the next full 82-game season starts? Again, my first instincts wants him to go back....but I think I could find some positives in him staying.
Its with bonuses. Have to count them.
I don't like the idea of burning a year off his ELC in a shortened season where were unlikely to achieve great results. IMO he goes to Sarnia, no questions asked.
I would prefer he go back because he missed all of last year with the knee injury. Let him dominate in the OHL all year including playoffs.
If he is to make it I would hope he gets top 6 ice time.
I wonder if the 8 game trial still exists before year 1 is burnt. I could see a 2 week 4-5 trail if there are no exhibitions.

Well, latendresse was sent back after his first camp where he played really well. I don't think keeping him around the 2nd year was a mistake. The problem came from management not being patient enough. He should have been paired up with Koivu and stayed there, they were working well together.
He proved he was ready when we traded him. We just misused him completely.
As for Gally, I agree, sending him down won't hurt him at all. That being said, it doesn't mean it would help him more than staying with the big club. I think it will come down to whether or not management finds it worthy of wasting an ELC year in a transitional year (half a season) where we're likely not to make the post season anyways.
Might as well send him down, let him go back to his dominating form, see how strong he can perform in the POs, give him another summer to work hard, and see how great he comes in next year.
