FWIW, Cerny was doing a mini AMA on Twitter. Don't know what kind of connections he has with the organization (I imagine he has some), but here is what he thought on AV and him being fired this offseason:

In which, Carp said "they also went into this season with low expectations, knowing it was a rebuild." which really doesn't make any sense, considering how they handled Buchnevich, giving Chytil ~12 minutes of NHL ice time, giving Kampfer a lot of TOI, etc.

Granted, there is still plenty of the season for things to change, so who knows, but I figured it's worth posting.

:dunno:

Take all of this with a grain of salt.

My feel is they had low expectations, saw the camp and exhibition games Chytil had, got a bit excited, tried him the first few games, saw that he wasn't physically ready for a man's game, and are weaning Buch conservatively. I think they fell in love with Kampfer because of his mobility.

Boooooooooo

AV is not the person to be handling the rebuild

If the front office thinks he is the guy, there is no point in even trying

A smart GM, thank goodness, would do the exact opposite of what you're proposing and see how the rebuild/retool shakes out before he makes a decision on the coach best suited to lead it.

This is a roster that continually gets overrated by the fanbase, and Im not sure why to be honest because they weren't that good or deep on paper from the get go, even without the injuries.
That does nothing to address system issues or personnel usage (when healthy).

What has AV done to deserve a chance with a basically new roster?

Nothing.

His time has come. Fire him in the summer, and find someone new. Even if that means making someone like McCambridge the interim until they find the right person

I don’t know. If there’s any sense that the coach doesn’t have the team, then you need to part ways specifically so you can better evaluate what you have in terms of roster personnel. These guys aren’t playing their best and will not for this coach.

AV is so weird. DeAngelo got manhandled against DAL and today he's paired with McDonagh? I mean, I'm not mad that a kid is getting a shot, but this guy's inconsistency with evaluating players, and bumping their lines or d-pairs, is truly mind-boggling.

It makes no sense.

And yet people want this guy handling the rebuild roster.

It's one guy lol.

AV is more or less universally hated by the rest of us.
On this forum yes. Outside of here, there are people that still love him

I also am semi worried the front office thinks he is the guy. I think (and hope) he may get fired in the summer, but I also would not be surprised if he was back next season

Jim Cerny has often a releastic view about the topic or other topics related to Rangers, but it`s a result oriented league and u need to do something even though they are aware that we struggle with depth and injuries. I`m not certain that a future Ranger team even if we moved most of our vets in the summer window will benefits from AV as coach with his current system.

Know this. The Rangers would prefer not to make a change. There is much internal respect for Vigneault, who has earned it by coaching the team to the NHL’s sixth-best regular-season record over the first four years of his tenure while winning what is tied for the second-most playoff series victories over that same span. The fact that the Blueshirts have attained that level of success without a single player on either the first- or second All-Star team has not gone unnoticed or unappreciated, and nor should it.

Kill me.

This front office is so hard to read because they barely talk to anyone outside of the draft and random phone conferences in-season.

Early in the season, while the team was garbage, they were apparently ready to fire AV based on the Vegas game.

Now, while they're garbage, they're apparently not going to fire him.

The only thing that changed is that they had a hot streak in the middle, but they've still been garbage for a while.

So...what changed? Why feel the need to keep him?

I sometimes hate the secretive nature this FO has...

They were likely never going to fire him after the Vegas game and it was baseball speculation by the media. I doubt the team management is that irrational.

My interest in what happens with this team long term significantly decreases if AV is still the coach next season

Imagine thinking that a guy who hates using young players and has an absolute garbage system that makes good players very bad is the guy who should be leading this rebuild that hasn't been done in a long time

Unless this is some form of posturing by the front office for whatever reason, this isn't a good sign long term

Off the top of my head, AV's contract is for two more years, right? This was his final year and they extended him for two more?

If AV is not fired in the offseason I am going full machinehead until he is. I'm also done with Gordo the clown.

They're really not.
JG's actions speak volumes.

I just don't understand the logic here. Do they really believe the product out on the ice has been acceptable enough that this guy deserves to continue as the head coach? Do they believe the roster is the only real problem? Frustrating as shit

He needs to go so badly it makes me want to cry. The culture is so bad here. They need a coach who will put some fear into these players.

Just fire him today and hire an interim. You guys will have a better chance at making the playoffs. I hate AV when he is with the Canucks, i do not wish other teams having to suffer from this incompetent coach. The sooner you guys let him go, the sooner the Rangers can have a chance at the cup.

Given the injuries we have and some of the other deficiencies, it's probably better we don't make the playoffs. We're going to be selling and doing a mini-rebuild/retool/whatever you want to call it. Firing AV now could potentially spark the team and lead to unwanted results (i.e. success).

But yeah everyone hates him and wants him fired.

f*** the playoffs. No coach is good enough to do much with this roster.

They can do more, but this team really shouldn't be attempting to make anything.

I don't buy it.

The issue with firing AV in October was that he was just extended. If this team sells off enough pieces, its easier to sell that they're going in a different direction to Dolan after the season is over.

He should have never been extended though.
