What's the point? The decision was made. Don't need a presser. Don't need exit interviews.

You honestly don't see any significance to the fact that it happened at the soonest possible moment, on a Saturday night at 11PM? As opposed to waiting until Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon during normal business hours, after allowing 3-4 days for the dust to settle?

Putting it in corporate terms, the former is showing up to your office to find your entry card disabled and security waiting for you in reception, while the latter is having a cordial meeting with a regretful superior who offers you generous severance and allows you until the end of the week to get your affairs in order. At least IMO.

Reading all that "AV dragged a mediocre roster to the finals/presidents trophy, the Rangers never had a good team" narrative boils my blood.

How people can be that stupid and ignorant is astounding.

I think the significance is his impromptu press junket. They were probably going to wait until after the exit interviews but he lost that courtesy by blaming management and the players in one fell swoop.

I bet he already knew, not guessed, he was gone. I have never seen damage control like that. This guy has been separating himself from blame all year, threw Henrik under the bus already.

But if they we're looking to insult him, he would have been fired in advance of the last game.

Yes, but the corporate equivalent of that would be having security physically remove you from your office, in front of all your colleagues. :)

Mediocre is a strong word, but I will always maintain that both teams overachieved the sum of their parts.

And offensively, I think the 2 years after that were overachievers too.

And no, Lundqvist does not always make his teams overachieve, because he’s part of that sum too. It’s coaching. Renney teams weren’t overachievers, for example.

I love the guy who thinks being a beat writer for the Coyotes is impressive. All that tells me is that he has a Lit degree and wasn't experienced enough to cover the Diamondbacks, Cardinals, or Suns - ya know a team someone in Arizona actually gives a **** about.
Reading that guys post it's obvious he didn't watch the Rangers. Maybe he knew the results of our playoff series but he didn't actually watch any games.

He knew he was done, hence his little speech touting his abilities. Maybe it was an appeal to Sather or Dolan, but he knew he was done. It's interesting that player development was mentioned. He must have had a discussion with Brooks.
" he did not want to be pigeonholed as someone who can only coach a team loaded with older players. He remembered being criticized with the Canucks for his handling of three unnamed young players, then explained that two eventually flamed out and one barely hung on to a NHL career."

I don't know if that quote was during his monologue or a response to a question. But it rubs me the wrong way that he uses some player's failure and another's substance abuse issues to his benefit.

We as a forum tend to skew toward the youth and we miss the mark more often than not. Tons of guys we felt were getting short changed flamed out. But his management during the Ottawa series showed a stationary coach that got passed by an entire league. His style is the polar opposite to Gorton's aim. AV does not trust young players and will always defer to experience. This league is now driven by ELCs and young legs. Time to move on

And that is the reason why I don't think he will be hired again .he's been severely exposed

And still lots of people thought he would never get a job again after NY and ESPECIALLY after Vancouver.
I wasn't surprised Torts got hired again after here. After Vancouver in 2014? Very much so. Both his assistants that year got head coaching jobs too...

AV reached the law of diminishing returns a couple of years ago. His teams came out flat way too often. His line choices and punishments were inconsistent with how he kept playing veterans despite their failures. He couldn't motivate the team anymore when he had veterans and he certainly couldn't motivate the team with young players. It was the same broken record every time. No adjustments.

He should have been let go before this season, but if it contributed to the sell-off and rebuild, then fine. I'm just glad we won't see his horrific defensive "system" ever again. GTFO.
