It’s a business. I mean your employee wouldn’t think twice about letting you go. Same with hockey teams. De Haan prime example. He signed as a free agent last year, wasn’t even worried about being traded, then bam, he’s the one traded. Team made a business decision. Aho, made a business decision. No one should feel hurt or mad at the other. It’s a business.

Don’t let these crazy habs fans let you think Aho wants out. Yes, he had to want to play with the habs as there was a 1% chance Canes didn’t match, but there was a 99% chance they do, so he has to want to continue to be in Raleigh.

I have no doubt we’ll get the full 5 years, and who knows, may be longer if this team continues to make the playoffs and be competitive. Aho, the organization, teammates, and fans will all just be fine.

Now Dw, better not forget to send that paperwork in. Otherwise we’ll never hear the end of it from Habs.

I hope the team gives away Aho t-shirts for the season opener.

1. It trolls Montreal
2. More people will have an Aho shirt causing an increased idea that he belongs on the team with fans
3. It trolls Montreal

Do we even need to troll Montreal anymore at this point?

Having said that, I've always thought a nice menu item for home games against the Habs would be Saku's Eyeball Soup.

Sarah Civ tweeted out an article from this morning that interviewed TT who basically said it's clear to him that Aho will remain a Hurricane.

I don't think there's any bad blood to be had. Management seems to understand it was a business move, and I doubt the players care as long as he continues to play well.

This one.

-I don't think there's anything incredible about it (Offer sheet). It was clear that Sepe would continue with us anyways. The contract business just went a bit differently than usual, but it all ended well.

I don't think too many people in Denver hate Sakic for signing with Rangers. I don't think people in Carolina will hate Aho either. If you want to hate someone, hate your GM who wanted to offer peanuts for him.

Negotiate what ever you want, but sign the player before he is RFA or at the very least take all the blame for your player instantly signing somewhere else.
You can’t just “sign the player” by waving a magic wand. If it was that easy, then Marner, Rantanen, Point, Provorov, Werenski, Connor, Laine, Boeser, etc.. would all be signed already.

All those GMs are negotiating after the players went to RFA, just like Waddell. Aho and his agent just used the Habs and the only leverage they had (other than holding out) to get it done and not drag it out. There’s no blame here on either side.

How much time Bergevin needed to sign Aho? Seems to me like waving a magic wand and especially to a bargain deal.

His options were 'No Aho at all' or '5 years of Aho'. Somewhat easier to make the move than when the options are '5 years of Aho' or '8 years of Aho'.

He was playing at other team's guy, nothing of value is lost if there's no success. Canes on the other hand had up to 3 UFA years at stake.

Like the other GMs of RFAs currently have.

I’m 100% positive that if the Canes wanted to sign Aho to a 5 year deal, they could have, but as has been reported NUMEROUS times, they wanted to sign him longer, so they were negotiating, like Amy GM would. Bergevin didn’t care about longer term, because Aho wasn’t his asset so he was fine giving in to that and the agent had no problem using Bergevin to get the agreement done quickly.

I’m also 100% sure that if the other GMs wanted to give Marner, Rantanen, Point, Laine, etc... exactly what the players wanted, they’d be signed yesterday. That’s not how it works though. Players try to get deals they like, teams like to get deals they like and eventually, they come to agreement through negotiation. Blaming s GM for doing his job is ridiculous.

The faster an offer sheet is accepted, the more certain it is that old team didn't want to try to pay.

That's quite a leap of logic you have there. Especially considering we already know the disagreement was over years, not money.

I'm continually amazed how often people attempt to speak with authority on subjects in which they have an apparent lack of correct information.
