im truly amazed at Rupp and some other former hockey players calling this interference

what.. since Fox doesnt have the puck Aho cant even go toward or be near him? hes just not allowed to be covered?

Fox tried to use edgework to get quickly get around and couldnt; thats not interference, thats an accidental collision

sheesh - I get Fox is a stud and beloved Ranger but to act like hes just allowed free open ice anywhere he goes is just not how the sport is or has ever been played
Replace Fox with McDavid, Crosby, or Bedard and this board melts down on what a dirty player Aho is. But because it's Fox, and among other things, he is a player for the Rangers it crickets on Aho and the blame is on Fox. Typical.

Because Aho isn’t a dirty player. He tried to make some contact here and it went really wrong - one play doesn’t make a player dirty. I don’t believe he meant to hurt Fox but I do believe he tried to get a piece of him. They’re star players and they play hard against each other.

Of course it isn’t Fox’s fault.

I get why Rangers fans are mad, I would be too if I lost a player to injury like this on a non call. I think it should’ve been an interference at least, and if he had gotten called for something stronger I wouldn’t have argued too hard - though I would’ve argued there wasn’t intent to injure.

Hope Fox comes back strong asap. He’s an amazing player.

Canes fan.

100% should have been an interference penalty, Aho intentionally tried to get in his way. I don't think he tried to go knee on knee on purpose and hit him, but that's as blatant of interference as you can get.

Rupp's take is bang on. He's not even calling Aho dirty.

This is the way i saw it too. You can't just pick guys in the middle of the ice when the puck is in the far corner. Aho did attempt to slow him down ever so slightly because he knew he was beat , and that what happened, then the legs made contact. The NHL Network did a great job at breaking this down today. It sucks Fox got the worst of it.

Not yet, it happens multiple times a year. He hasnt thrown a huge one yet this year to my knowledge. Regardless, when he's challenged he does fight.

Well, he’s also known as one of the dirtiest hitters in the league. And he’s a big guy who likes to fight. Categorizing it as something Trouba “has” to do when it’s obviously something he relishes doing is dishonest and misleading.

Aho meanwhile is a small scoring forward more like a Panarin. If Panarin ran into Slavin in the same way yesterday you’d be singing a much different tune about whether Panarin was obligated to fight Lemieux or whoever lol.

If you think Trouba is dirty you arent paying attention. 95% of his big hits are clean as can be.

5% bound to happen when you hit like he does.

Yep. Hence answering the bell. The type of thing you do for massive hits, not incidental contact. Took awhile but we got there.

(Also, worth reiterating, Trouba loves it. Him throwing out the quote that he “has” to do it is so dumb. He relishes it.)

(Also, I don’t really think guys should have to answer the bell for clean hits either. But if that’s really happening to Trouba as much as Rangers fans say, that sounds like a personal problem for him, not sure why he needs to make that Aho’s problem.)

Yep. This is it. I think Rupp’s analysis is correct. Aho was in bad defensive position and tried to impede Fox. Bad result. It was certainly interference but otherwise just a shitty result.

Jacob Trouba has 20 hits this year and 0 fighting majors. No bell answering I guess.
Demagogy. The point was about marquee hits, not just any hit.

Also he shouldn't be getting fighting majors at all after having to fight after a clean hit, that should be the instigator penalty for the other party. But it's not always so for whatever reason.
