After Ovi, who needs the Cup the most to cement their status?

Yeah, and that's only in SCF. He lost three games, too.
In 25 games Thomas had a 2.00 GAA and a.938 SV%. That’s unheard of. Luongo was good, but not nearly as good as they. And, Thomas didn’t falter when it came down to crunch time (the final) whereas Luongo did.

I don’t even like knocking Luongo as I’ve sleays been a big fan of his game and personality, but the better team/player win the cup in 2011.

Pre-SCF, Luongo was 1.88 and 0.945 with four shutouts.

And then it became crunch time and Thomas allowed 4 goals in the last five games of the final. Luongo didn’t keep up the performance throughout the entire playoff.

To be honest, Vancouver, back then, had a hard time scoring on Thomas. It happened during the season and during the playoffs. It's a team issue, not because Thomas is a fine goaltender. Look at Tampa Bay. They almost routed him in the Conference Finals.

I would like to see Joe Thornton win a Cup, though I'm not sure how much it would cement his legacy at this point. He's already Hall of Fame bound, and at this point I don't think he could change the narrative of being a great player that wasn't too great in the playoffs.

No they wouldn't. They'd be saying Ovechkin, or Thornton. Marleau has what, a few all-star appearances and was in the running for the Lady Byng once or twice? Not everything revolves around the Leafs.

Thornton for me. I mean, he had already cemented his status as one of the greatest players of his generation, however it would be a damn shame for such a fantastic player to end his career without a cup...

Agree but I think alot of the narrative comes from an obviously injured early career Boston and resentment has followed since.

No, but I think it's more about if they win the cup he's more of a ride along now. Ovi won the cup, "cementing" his status, by being apart of the leading players on the team. He doesn't just have a cup to his name, he went out and got it.

If the thread was about guys you'd like to see finally get their cup, Marleau would be one of the players chosen.
