We should have been playing Gaudette on the first line earlier in the season before November.
I posted it on October 29th that we should give him a shot on the first line.
Paul-Stutzle-Gaudette

Give it a try

I see your October 29th 2024 and raise you a November 27th 2021 :sarcasm:

What a legend. His tip in with less than 5 mins left was a thing of beauty

Gaudette is 23rd in goals scoring in the NHL rn
With 10:26 of TOI
Nobody is under 15:00 TOI in the first 37
Pretty impressive lol. I remember at the beginning of the year we all thought - correctly - that Green would deploy him on PP2 as one of the point men, but he's taken that and run. Mixed with some bullish work from the previous iteration of the 4th line, he's a natural.

Dude touches the puck and it goes in the net. His goals don't look fluke either, it isn't like they are bouncing in off him. They are almost all high skill goal scorers goal. Doesn't seem like he can create for himself, but that's true for lots of goal scorers.

I'd say he couldn't come close to keeping this up on 4th line/PP2 mins, but on the first line with Stutzle playing like this? He can score 30+ IMO.

If I'm Sens and he keeps this up you offer 2 years at 3.5. That's retirement level cash for Gaudette and if he keeps it up he gets a big contract.

If you want to be a competitive team you need home run trades and signings like this.

If he can be a consistent top 6 guy then that can help undo things like Dorions shitty trades or Formenton being a giant shitbag.

Jeebus! $3.5!?

We won't have to go that high, I hope. Or do you mean total over 2 years?

If he gets over 30, and is a FA, he will have some leverage.

It isn't a total fluke. He has been a goal scorer at every level, especially as he has adjusted to the league he is in. Ripped up the A last year, scored all preseason, and has kept it up through the first part of the regular season.

He is a Cy Young candidate, but we need goals. I hope he keeps it up for the next while, and then GMSS begins some discussions to see if we can fit him in.

I know people like to make fun of him for the crystal things, but honestly, it's way less gross of a superstition than Crosby using the same jock strap since high school.

3.5 total or per year? Because no to one and yes to the other.

Also, I'm not trying to be an arse, but his first goal last night literally bounced off his skate lol.

Sorry we don't have any replicas of those jock straps available and they have been back ordered so long that I doubt we will be getting any.

He'll price himself out of Ottawa if he asks for $3.5 million. The most he's getting given the deployment he's getting + an absurd 35% shooting percentage is a couple of years at $2 million, but if not, Staios will have to go bargain hunt somewhere else.

Absolutely not.

Gaudette is riding an insane shooting percentage and he's the kind of player who won't help you much in the playoffs.

If I were Staios I'd wait until closer to the end of the year before discussing an extension, as he's likely to regress offensively.

If he gets an extension I'd guess it'd be something like 1.1M x 2 years. Guaranteed money for Gaudette but the team wouldn't be forced to keep him up with the big club in future seasons if he regresses back into more of an AHL scorer.
