Say anything you want about all of these deals, including Kreids, Bread, Shesty, Goodrow, Mika and Trouba - but at least there is cost certainty for some time.

This is the core we have going forward. No choice but to buy into it as the cap equalizes itself after the time lost to Covid.

Good, bad or indifferent there is less and less uncertainty the more core players you lock up. As the buyouts come off the books things will become more clearer for the future of the cap landscape.

It also makes it very clear to the agents of Kakko and Laf, Miller and the rest of the young kids that there will only be a finite amount of space if they want to be a part of this team going forward.

It would behoove this team to make it to the dance and make some noise in the playoffs so they want to be a part of something special going forward.

A double edged sword for sure because those young players will have to play well to get there

Isn’t that always the case?

I’m not going to complain. Looking forward to seeing what’s best for Fox. I don’t even think he’s hit his ceiling yet.

Just frustrating that a team like Colorado has arguably better players (at least at forward) on such better contracts.

Meanwhile we are here saying we actually can’t afford to pay Kakko if he breaks out, yet don’t even have a playoff team to show for it.

None of these deals look bad in a vacuum. The problem is a bunch of average deals in vacuums is cumulatively bad. You’ve gotta get some positively good ones.

Not that this isn’t a fine deal but we hear the same thing every time we sign one of these guys: well this deal isn’t bad.

This is actually a pretty good/good deal for the Rangers. I mean, the guy did win the Norris trophy and a comparable, Makar, signed for 9M and a year less than Fox. This contract will age well as long as Fox is consistent and there's no reason to think he won't be.

Between Mika and Fox taking less (and they did), that will be enough together to fit in a valuable depth piece a few seasons down the road, or help retain a youngen that actually plays up to their draft position.

its not a ton, but it adds up to something

The amount of people on Twitter acting like this is an overpay is hilarious to me. I’m shocked that it’s almost entirely islanders fans and Devils fans.

9.5x7 is a hometown discount, let’s get that out of the way right now. After what Jones and Nurse signed for, Fox would’ve been completely justified asking for 11 per and he would’ve been worth it. Makar got 9 but only for 5 years. Fox at 9.5 is worth every penny and then some. McAvoy signed basically the same contract, Fox wasn’t going to sign for less. He literally just won the Norris trophy last season. Worth every penny.

Wish we would slap the C on him tomorrow night.

Had to post my gifs all together, sorry, lol. Anyway was just saying the other day where would this team be without Fox and Shesty, wouldn’t be a winning record, imo. These guys have become the foundation to what will build onto a competitive window for years to come. So happy, and got his jersey on opening day!!
