Oh I agree, I think the price is more than fair. What people need to recognize is the Rangers have another 3 years of scouting and solid development on Fox compared to any kid they would have selected at #37. That allows for a much clearer picture of the type of player he is. That has inherent value for sure.

As of right now, I would say slim chances he plays 30 games. IF Gorton can re-construct the right side than the chances increase. I really don't see him pushing ADA or Shattenkirk from the regular roster and if Pionk is around, he will get first shot on that right side.

I was almost thinking the Rangers would limit him to 29 games just to avoid the condition, but he could always come in and force them to keep him in the lineup.

Yeah, and at that point, I am sure Gorton wouldn't care about giving up their 2nd next year if Fox comes in and plays well as a rookie.

Im happy that Fox is a NYR. I know a few coaches that coaches against him here on LI. They raved about him. One in particular called him one of the most cerebral defenseman to ever come out of NY. I do have one question about this move as im a little confused on it. Rumor was Fox wanted to come to NYR. I believe he also communicated his plans to return to Harvard next season.
If he returns to Harvard next season doesn't that mean he is a UFA at seasons end where Gorton could have just signed him for free rather then giving up a #2?
He was staying so he would become a UFA and sign with someone else (likely us). He done with Harvard, signing his ELC now.

Right. And I think there's likely value to his development curve to getting him to the pros now. Paying the price to sign him now is as much about that as it is ensuring he's a Ranger.

They did not care about the contract status for Andersson or Chytil this year I highly doubt they care about the condition and the only way I see him not meeting it is he gets hurt.

More than I was hoping to give up but he is worth that, we need him, and he is probably better than anything we would get with those two picks. I like the move.

This is a completely different situation than that, since it involves giving up a tangible asset. But regardless, it should be a secondary consideration.

Man the Rangers D situation is a weird mish mash of players right now.

On the left side right now you currently have signed and likely to make the roster
Skjei
Hajek
Staal
Smith

In the system you have as notables
Miller
Lindgren
Rykov

On the right

Shattenkirk
DeAngelo
Fox
Pionk

In the system
Lundkvist
Keane

Maybe forgetting some guys but in general it's a gonna be a weird few years seeing who is traded, who busts, who is signed as a FA, etc

My long prediction:

Skjei / DeAngelo
Hajek / Fox
Claesson / Shattenkirk
Rykov / Pionk

Staal traded at 50% for a late round pick.

Smith buried.
