That is awful.

Shouldve just been that he re-signed they get the 3rd*

Hate that we are giving up Two 2nds. He is gona play 30 games next year. Just dont see how he doesnt unless he seriously needs the AHL for the Pro adjustment.

This is what I have said from the beginning

Two 2nds seem high if you assume he would sign here no matter what but you can not know for certain that would happen therefore you need to offer something reasonable or they could deal him to another team he may be willing to sign with over playing another year in college

What this DOES do is take a way a possible valuable chip to help the Rangers move up in the first round. That #37 overall pick has some value

And that value was used to acquire a top-30 prospect. I'm not sweating it.

Over/under on Fox playing 29 games in the NHL next year?

glad to have him in the mix but that's a FANTASTIC deal for carolina. they had zero leverage and were gonna lose him for nothing and likely come away with 2 2nd rounders.

Im happy that Fox is a NYR. I know a few coaches that coaches against him here on LI. They raved about him. One in particular called him one of the most cerebral defenseman to ever come out of NY. I do have one question about this move as im a little confused on it. Rumor was Fox wanted to come to NYR. I believe he also communicated his plans to return to Harvard next season.
If he returns to Harvard next season doesn't that mean he is a UFA at seasons end where Gorton could have just signed him for free rather then giving up a #2?

Shattenkirk should be the guy to go. But so should Pionk.

They can't roll out ADA, Pionk and Fox
They could if this is still a year where the wins and losses aren't the most concerning thing. But ideally they get rid of Pionk because he's bad and shouldn't be here long.

I think under normal circumstances, Fox is easily worth the second round pick and the conditional pick.

On the other hand, Carolina was the team on the clock and the Rangers had a great chance to sign him anyway.

But when pushes come to shove, I'm okay with being aggressive to get young talent - be it this deal, or any potential dealings involving the draft.

I'm about the quality over quantity at this point.

I'm actually okay not picking in the second if it means essentially using our picks (in one form or another) and coming away with Kakko, Fox and someone like Zegras.

Oh I agree, I think the price is more than fair. What people need to recognize is the Rangers have another 3 years of scouting and solid development on Fox compared to any kid they would have selected at #37. That allows for a much clearer picture of the type of player he is. That has inherent value for sure.

As of right now, I would say slim chances he plays 30 games. IF Gorton can re-construct the right side than the chances increase. I really don't see him pushing ADA or Shattenkirk from the regular roster and if Pionk is around, he will get first shot on that right side.

Yes, but you never know what will happen between now and next year. Maybe a team comes with an offer and impresses in an interview. Gorton has stockpiled so many picks that he was able to do this. If you're a NYR fan, there is no way you should be disappointed with this move in the least. Look at Carolina and the NYI, that could be us in these playoffs next year.

There are reports of him nearing an ELC with the Rangers currently. I am sure Carolina gave the Rangers front office some time to negotiate with the player or else the deal wouldn't have been done
