Love to trade my 18 year old franchise center and three more top-4 picks for a guy who is going to walk straight to free agency in a year and change.

McDavid's value is drastically lower because of his impending free agency.

Caps don’t have the assets for him but in trying to think through Edmonton’s needs, Dylan Strome + Logan Thompson + Hendrix Lapierre + Ryan Leonard + Cole Hutson + 2025 1st.

Oilers get a 1B center in Strome to fill the lineup gap, a significant upgrade in goal on a good contract in Thompson, the organization’s top two, A-tier prospects in Leonard and Hutson, a likely middle-six center in Lapierre, and a 1st. Would throw in Ryan Chesley as well if you want a projected 2RD. Could also swap out Thompson for Chuckie Lindgren if you prefer a goalie with three years of term instead of six, and at a lower cap hit.

I think this is more than enough for McDavid as a 28yo UFA considering the Oilers are instantly rebuilding if he’s traded

Wouldn't make sense for San Jose. Gotta think about the timeline and right now with nothing else in the system it would just be wasting his final prime years.

Also, Celebrini/Smith in their teens on rookie deals is worth more than Connor at 28 making 15.

I'd say Celebrini is probably the most untouchable player in the league

I was thinking Thompson instead of Dahlin but you could say instead of Power so the Oilers get the 1C and 1D in return. Probably add another 1st too.

Other teams (depending on trade restrictions in contracts):

Tampa - Kucherov, Cirelli +
Carolina - Aho, Slavin, 1sts +
Utah (if Edmonton want younger guys) - Guenther, Cooley, Sergachev, +
Islanders - Barzal, Dobson, Horvat
Ottawa - Stutzle, Sanderson, 1sts +

Some of those may seem expensive to the buyers, but any deal is going to hurt.

Superstar #1C with term + multiple 1st round picks is the starting point

And I mean legitimate superstar 1C, like Barkov/Eichel/Matthews
