Almost Canada
Perron is younger and a talented offensive player. In case you hadn't noticed, we have trouble scoring.

We have trouble scoring because we play the whole game in our own end, and when we do get the puck, we have no transition game.

Our forward lines, with a little tweaking, would be fine. Our D is our problem.

Wonder what it would take to pry Antoine Vermette from Phoenix. He'll be a ufa after next season. Good numbers in the dot. Backstom, Grabo, Vermette up the middle would work quite well.

Perhaps MAJO and Ward?

Too much. Swap Ward with Fehr and maybe add a late pick if that.

Might as well sign a free agent.

Ott, Boyle, Roy, Goc, Mitchell.

Might also go hard after Malykhin from Avtomobilist -- young center with grit and great hands who is also one of the league's best at the dot at 57%.

Any interest in Green for Bieksa and a 1st?

For WAS Bieksa should hold up 2-3 more years and add grit, plus the pick puts something nice in the system.

VAN would get younger and a puck mover as they retool. Probably easy for them to re-sign given Green from Western Canada.

I think Bieksa has a NTC and recently said he doesn't want to be moved out of Vancouver. I doubt Vancouver would do that trade anyway and I'm not sure if Green is a Torts type of player

Fine with me. Green can't get out of here fast enough.

I highly doubt that Green returns good top-4 D in Bieksa along with what's likely a top-10 draft pick.

Bieksa only has 2-3 years left and VAN is in dire need of roster turnover. I don't think they'll go total rebuild with the Sedins still there, so a retooling with established players makes sense. As much as we hate Green - he is valuable.

He's valuable, but nowhere near top 4 Dman and top 10 pick valuable, especially with only one year left on his contract and with Vancouver rebuilding. Propose that on the main boards and Canucks fans will rightly laugh you out of the thread.

I'd take Bieksa and a 1st for Green, although I'm not sure Vancouver would pull that deal if Torts is still the coach (but hey, maybe Green would actually respond to yelling, nothing else has worked).

Green probably has a higher value to some GMs then most Caps fans realize. Even in a up and down year, his offensive numbers are solid, he skates a lot of minutes, and he can backend a stellar PP. Frankly, none of the Caps defenders has fared very well in the Oates/Calle system. A team with a more opportunistic system may well be willing to take a chance on Green.

When was the last time a player like Subban was traded and do the Caps have the pieces to get him?
Either Kessel or Pronger, and I'd say yes, they have the pieces. The bigger question I have is: do they have the pieces without moving Ovechkin/Carlson/Backstrom/Kuznetsov? Completely dependent on what other teams are offering' I'd think.

The nice thing about this little Kuznetzov tryout is that it makes Burakovsky tradeable. I'd prefer to put together a futures package around Forsberg sigh.

One of Green/Johansson/Brouwer, Burakovsky 2014 1st? I'd have to imagine that's competitive.

Another nice thing about Kuznetzov is you can pull the "he'll go back to the KHL if he can't play for Washington" card.

I think Subban would be a good Mike Green replacement, but we'd still have the same issues we have now defensively. Subban plays the right side so we'd still need a real 4LD and the third pairing is still terribad.

It's just a start.

My wishlist in order:

#1 dman + Green out
Second line center -ideally someone closer to Koivu than Grabovski
Second Pairing dman
60 point winger

I guess, it just seems like the cost of acquiring a guy like him could be better spent addressing other team needs. Subban's not that big of an improvement over Green in my mind as much as we all like to hate on the guy.
