Im pretty sure the plan is to move Burakovsky into the top 6.

To me...these are the only set forward spots....

Ovechkin - ??? - Oshie
Burakovsky - ??? - ???
??? - Eller - ???
??? - Beagle - ???

92 could be 1st or 2nd line center. Same can be said with Backstrom. Depends on how they want to do it this time around. with linemates. I think its time to move Kuzy up there and go with it.

Me?

Ovie - Kuznetsov - Oshie
Burakovsky - Backstrom - Wilson
Vrana - Eller - Connolly
Walker - Beagle - Smith-Pelly/Boyd

Here's my lineup, with a 1m/yr Vet D-man:

Burakovsky-Backstron-Oshie
Vrana-Kuznetsov-Connolly
Ovechkin-Eller-Wilson
Walker-Beagle-Graovac
Smith-Pelly

Orlov-Niskanen
Carlson-Beauchemin(Oduya?)
Bowey-Orpik
Chorney

Holtby
Grubauer

Id like to get Oduya...but they'd have to deal with the Righty Left thing with him being a LD and Djoos likley being ready to make the jump and not being waiver exempt.

Orlov- Niskanen
Oduya - Carlson
Orpik - Bowey
Chorney

Thats not too terrible actually.

But if they want to get Doojs in the line up....I dunno. He'd have to switch to RD and Bowey starts in Hershey

Orlov- Niskanen
Oduya - Carlson
Orpik - Djoos
Chorney

or...just go young...

I'd rather go after an extra forward and keep Wilson on the 4th line, it could become a useless line with 2 rookies or a rookie and Smith-Pelly/Graovac. I also believe Wilson isn't a top 9 player and Connolly is a fringe one but whatever, I do like a good 4th line.

Ovechkin-Kuznetsov-Burakovsky
Vrana-Backstrom-Oshie
Vanek/Jokinen-Eller-Connolly
Smith-Pelly/Walker-Beagle-Wilson

I guess it depends on how NHL ready Djoos and/or Bowey are.

Djoos in over Bowey. Orpik/Djoos would be interesting,,to say the least.

What youth movement? Between forwards adjusting to bigger roles and unproven defensemen on a pair or two, you'd think they'd want to square one of those areas away a bit better. I'd go Beauchemin as a D that's a bit more balanced and maybe a better skater at this point, although I can't say I watched a ton of Colorado last season. If he could be had for $1M that's the way I'd go. He comes closest to replacing Alzner while also bringing a touch more offense.

I don't know that they can get comparable value up front in a UFA forward or that they're as unsettled about readiness in the various roles. They probably should be when it comes to Vrana and Wilson and also lack a numbers game organizationally to offer capable replacements. Still, Trotz seems more likely to fixate on the blueline and defensively in general rather than offense.

Too many kids = one will fail miserably. If they can sign a 1m Vet, they should. Look at what Cullen did for the Pens ?

Yeah, Cullen plus Rust/Sheary/Geuntzal/Wilson.

We tried with Federov, Arnott, Williams, etc., etc., it hasn't worked.

I would rather watch kids fail, and miss the playoffs, than make the playoffs with some veteran/s and lose in round one.

Federov and Williams were good gets.

Also if you continue to operate as if every player is the same you'll never make progress. Because we had these veterans and it didn't work doesn't mean that no veterans work.

The narrative is the narrative until it is not.

I'd say Arnott was a good get to, and he didnt cost to much I don't think, I can't remember the price.

How many have seen Djoos play? He can rack up some points at the AHL level, but needs more quickness and strength to handle the NHL.

seems like there are tons of small defensemen in the NHL now, it's a puck moving game, although the quickness is a cause for concern.

Francois Beauchemin was very bad this last season. All footspeed is gone, made bad decisions, and ultimately looked poor on a very bad team. I wouldn't want him anywhere near the top four. I'd be surprised if he doesn't retire.

Even if the kids struggle, the Caps will make the playoffs. Still too much talent and a very good goaltender. Let the kids learn during the regular season and perhaps they'll be seasoned by the time the playoffs come around, similar to what Pittsburgh has done.

Last year may have been the Caps best chance but the window has not yet closed.

Dennis Seidenberg's resurgence isn't a common occurrence. Plus everybody got to see Dennis Seidenberg have a great World Cup.

I'm not saying he's not worth a risk for cheap, I'm just saying not to expect anything coming from signing him.

It's time for Bowey to make his leap if he's going to be a top 4 guy one day. He's had a full season and a partial season as a pro. It's time. Djoos is a decent prospect and a potential allstar AHL player, don't get me wrong. But Madison Bowey is a legit top 4 prospect. Djoos is going to be lucky to stick on a third pairing in this leauge with second PP time being his most valuable asset. Let's be honest here. Another year in Hershey isn't going to do Bowey any good he's had more than enough time to adjust to that level of hockey. It's time to adjust to the next. Maybe he crashes and burns but it's time for trial by fire for him.

Alzner got two half seasons, Carlson got a playoffs and a half season. Orlov got 4 1/4 seasons that amounted to less than a full season total.(most due to injury issues).

Madison Bowey has spent more time than three of our most recent successful homegrown defenders. Get some or get out.

I get the feeling Caps and Pens fans kinda have more respect to each other now. Maybe I'm wrong.

But I think players feel it too.

Good moment to seize the opportunity and win.

Too bad, he has to stay up anyways. Waivers causes a problem

If you mean Djoos is subject to waivers, he could be sent back down. They might initially waive him as they were otherwise expecting to, and then recall him in time for the first game (meaning he'd have 10 games / 30 days before he'd be subjected to waivers again). So they could waive him and him probably not be claimed, and then bring him up to see whether he can fit or not.
