Without angering the mods, here is a list of articles featuring studies about players pol leanings. From this, one can easily come to the conclusion that a sizeable number come from con backgrounds.

I'll leave end this topic here, again so I don't anger the board gods.
Yeah I really didn't think that was exactly a secret lol

I don't think either city is safe from that.

You don't really hear about these teams trading away their stars unless the team is awful (Kessel and Pacioretty)
Sure Marner left but he played out the duration of the contract.
In a era where 0 tax states exist, there's still the allure of playing in a big metropolitan city.

No it proves the NHL is shifting from a team first mentality to a ME first mentality. Players are starting to act like entitled babies. put in a few years, finally make the playoffs a few times, and then bail because your brother was put in a better situation than you and won some cups.

There is no longer pride in lifting your team up, the one that committed to you, drafted you, and pays you. No pride. the NHL is slowing turning into every other self entitled sport where the player can walk back commitments.

Keith should be ashamed of his kid right now, but hes not because every father wants to see his kids together, but he should be.

This feels a bit like an over-reaction: the Tkachuks and Quinn Hughes did not demand a trade - they just informed their front offices that they weren't resigning. That's their right as players. And then obviously their front offices wanted to get as much as they could from them. No controversy there.

The Larkin situation is pretty rare but I just don't see why it's OK for franchises to ask a player to waive their NMC but it's not OK for a player to ask for trade. Obviously as fans, we don't like it, but I don't see it as a moral failing or the start of the Downfall of the NHL.

And as the Larkin situation shows, it's not a US-Canada issue - it's a "I'm on a mediocre team and want to be traded to a contending team" issue. Take the Habs for example - you don't really see Caufield or Hutson hinting at wanting to be traded. I think people are seeing things that aren't there.
If it is truly not a Canada vs US issue then why didn’t Larkin include Montreal, a world class city with a great young core who made it to the conference finals, in his list?

Same question could be asked about Brady.

He’s saying certain religions are more prominent/ engrained than others in certain places which then has a large effect on overall culture and community.

Which is absolutely 100% true. Look at the American deep South and Baptism versus say Long Island and Catholicism.
It's nice when someone gets the point and doesn't try to act like I spoke in insane absolutes

I mean this is a job at the end of the day. I think most people make career choices based on the life they want for themselves, not the feelings of other people

What religious differences are you talking about? Canada being a more secular society? Culturally, the U.S. and Canada are very similar. What you are inferring really doesn't have much of a role in players like Tkachuk (who is a dual by the way with a Canadian mother) wanting out of a market like Ottawa. Even factors like the weather or media scrutiny take a back seat to wanting to win. This isn't a strictly American thing. Canadian franchises have a hard time retaining stars regardless of where they come from.
The scale of a player's religious community in a given area just one of many factors that might impact where they want to live, just like everything else I listed. Maybe not for YOU, or even for most players, but for some it is

while I agree for the most part considering how current employers treat their employees, this situation was different in my eyes. The sens made the playoffs, have been improving, management seems to be improving.

all though I feel sometimes like this is scripted. FLA tanked a bit, got a high pick and BT is reportedly refusing to sign beyond his current contract. debatably fair compensation literally fell into FL's lap lol. Reminds me of how the Leafs landed the first OVA after missing the playoffs for the first time in 8 or so years, when they last got the 1st OVA after missing the playoffs.

If Euro kids start refusing U.S. destinations. That would make this very interesting.
Never going to happen.

Look at Willy O'Ree first black NHL player. His grandparents were slaves in the US and escaped to Canada through the underground railroad. Willy was born in New Brunswick. He's on record as saying he experienced far more racism in the US than Canada. Where did he decide to retire? The USA

Panthers better hope they win a cup cause they got no firsts until 2030 so that's prolly it when it comes trading for elite talent for a while.

If they don't return to form next 4 years, that fall is gonna be catastrophic for their future.

I agree. Things happen that negatively impact Canada and that impacts hockey fans and games all because of certain things and we can't discuss it because well I think it's obvious why we can't. If the role was reversed, guarantee it would be different.

I am in favour of NMCs/NTCs becoming void if the player asks for a trade. You can ask for a trade if you'd like but then the team can trade you to any other team they want.
I think this is the fix. the NTC/ NMC is only applicable if the team approaches the player, and does not apply if the player demands a trade.

Sorry, but this is not hockey.
