Unless either Tolopilo or Silovs is hurt, this is sort of a baffling move. Patera has been on injured reserve most of the season--and when he's ready to return that would leave four goalies in Abbotsford.

Makes me wonder if the Canucks might be thinking of moving a goalie at the TDL.
At this point moving either Silovs or Tolopilo seems like a no-brainer if anybody wants them. Both seem to have stalled and regressed and Lankinen is blocking either of them from getting an NHL shot anytime soon.

Anybody know exactly why his junior numbers were bad? He was on a pretty decent PG team. He has better numbers since turning pro.

Not the foggiest. I think of goalies kind of like baseball pitching prospects. Their surface level stats can be seemingly underwhelming at HS or college, but all the scouts and development coaches care about are the traits they have. Eg. a pitcher’s high spin rate vs a goalies reflexes or post to post movement.

To me it's a mystery. Like lots of posters, I was baffled when he was given a contract.
I was also surprised as well. He looked solid at the young stars tourney and seems to have carried it on. Pleasantly surprised, cautiously optimistic.

His numbers in the ECHL have been pretty damn impressive for a 20 year old goalie.

PG's was and still is a good team because of their high octane offence. Not a defensively sound team, at all. Ravensbergen might still be the first goalie drafted this June and he's hovering around .900% this year.

I really hope Lekk proves me wrong. I don’t believe in him because of his size but would absolutely love to be proven wrong.

I’d be stoked if he turned in to Kyle Conner

I've been going to a lot of PG Cougars games the last couple years. I believe (and I had some confirmation) that he was dealing with a minor hip/leg injury last season which is why his numbers were not that great. His lateral movement was noticeably sluggish. And Ravensbergen is a phenomenal goalie so it made sense he played fewer games.
In junior he looked big in the net and is great positionally but I felt his ability to track the puck was exceptional and that's a hard skill to teach so I had a feeling that with more time and coaching he would be a good goalie at the pro level.
Personally it makes me feel good that he is getting noticed, I've made a couple posts advocating for him as a real prospect and am stoked that he is blowing expectations out of the water.
As andora mentioned, this management group really values character and Young is extremely motivated and works hard which I'm sure is why he got an early contract.

Canucks Army 'Farmies Report' points out that Lekkerimaki is starting to 'dominate' at the AHL-level. And based on the Saturday night highlight package up on the AHL website--I'd have to concur. He's a threat almost every time he touches the puck.

CA even speculated that the Lekkerimaki breakthrough in Abbotsford might induce the Canucks to trade Boeser, and elevate Lekkerimaki to the big club as the replacement scoring winger.

Obviously it would be 'a risk'. But you could understand it, if it happened.

Things are going to plan. He does make Boeser a little bit more expendable. Very similar players, one is actually more defensively proven and skates decently at his age, he is solidly an elite prospect at this stage. Sometimes when he launches his wrist shots from everywhere, it reminds me of another smallish 15th pick from a long time ago. Just a hint😄.

Do good goalie prospects ever play in the ECHL?
