Abbotsford Canucks Talk | 2025 Stretch Run

I really wish they could have put the team somewhere like Surrey near a skytrain station. Attendance would be so much higher with it being so much more accessible to the entire Metro Vancouver area.

I'd probably go to at least one game a month with buddies assuming tickets wouldn't be expensive.

That new rink near Scott Road station would have been perfect.

Problem is the Abby rink was built years earlier.

I’ve got a spare ticket to tonight’s game. Offering it up the forum. First person to DM me gets to go.

The only downside is you have to hang out with me.

Edit: Offer rescinded! Found someone really cool to go…my son. He’s going to be so grumpy tomorrow from the lack of sleep.

If I didn't live on Vancouver Island I'd say I'm in.

Unless you have a private jet to pick me up and bring me home after the game.

It's really too bad Highway One is such a nightmare. But unfortunately the road-work probably won't finish until 2030.

I struggle to understand how it's taking them a decade+ to add an additional lane.

I'm sure there are valid reasons but when economists talk about the lack of productivity in this country, it's not hard to see why.

Hosting Calgary tonight and tomorrow night. Abbotsford going with seven defencemen tonight as Felton draws in for the first time in quite awhile.

McWard with a bad turnover; Silovs makes a big save on the first shooter and on the rebound a Calgary player had a wide-open net but he put the puck over the crossbar.

Melatonin, hopefully he sleeps in. Lol.

Frk scored his second goal on a 5v3 PP. Wolanin got one back with a nice wrist shot high to the blocker side on an Abby PP. 2-1 Calgary after 20 minutes and that was Abbotsford's worst period in a long time. Wranglers are in a two-month crash but they dominated that period and could've easily come away with a bigger lead; they missed the net on three glorious chances.

Calgary scored early in the second period for a 3-1 lead. Cooper Walker picked up a rebound and scored late in the period to reduce the deficit to one goal. A minute later, Klimovich-- who is having a strong game and had fired a 30-foot rocket off of the inside of the goal post earlier in the period-- scored a really nice goal to tie it 3-3. Calgary took a delay of game penalty in the dying seconds, so Abbotsford will have a PP for 1:49 to start the third period. Much better play from the home side in the middle 20.

Forgot to mention earlier that Mueller and Bains aren't in the lineup tonight.

Frk scored his hat-trick goal with a wrist shot from his off-wing, Calgary's first shot of the period. Nate Smith tied it about a minute later with a quick shot high to the glove side. 4-4 with 14 minutes to go. Smith has really picked up his game in the last few weeks.

Going to OT, 4-4. Kudryavtsev was playing well but he seems to have disappeared in the last 10 minutes, not sure what has happened.

Bah, that's annoying.

In fairness though, they're really testing the limits of their depth with all the callups to Vancouver plus two key forwards in Bains and Mueller being out of the lineup.

Good on Mueller, who's richly deserving of his first NHL call-up. And Klimovich up to 24 goals in his breakthrough campaign.

There's been endless speculation on these boards about who to trade for, to get forward line help; or who might come as a UFA. Fans are desperately studying Puckpedia to see who might shake loose and what it would take to trade for them.

But what if some of the replacements are a lot closer than we think? What if guys like Karlsson, Sasson, Raty, EP40, Mueller, Klimovich, Kudryavtsev and even McWard simply keep on improving?

A lot of successful teams over the years like the Lightning and Stars--have got their biggest infusion of talent from their AHL farm team. We're just not used to ever seeing it in Vancouver.

Would the coaching staff play them. "I got to find a way to get him more minutes" plays Lekkerimaki less than 10 minutes a game. Then tells media that Van complained about putting them into early and not allowing them to develop and sends him down.

Tocchet will just get them to sign more players like VD, Sprong, Heinen. TB was forced due to cap restraints.

Lekkerimaki's TOI per game did start out low but ended up at 12:30 before they sent him down. Given how unprepared for the NHL level he looked outside of soft PP minutes, I'd say Tocchet played him as much as he could. The other AHL call-ups are sitting at that 10-minute mark, but aside from Raty's late season offensive outburst, most of them have looked replacement-level and haven't exactly pushed for a greater share of the ice.

I get that people want young players to develop, but just feeding them NHL icetime and getting them caved in isn't the best way to accomplish that goal.

There's always that fine line. The Canucks usually get it wrong.
