Abbotsford Canucks Talk | 2025 Stretch Run

Was I ever wrong about Mueller wow. I thought at most he would be a low event AHLer at best and he seemingly has a solid chance at a NHL career.
I didn't know much about Mueller before he arrived in Abbotsford; I don't pay much attention to NCAA. And when I did my first prospect ranking in late November I had him at #18. In February I put him at #8, ahead of Silovs, Sasson and Bains. His skating and defensive intelligence were evident from the start but there's a little more offensive skill in him than I originally realized. He's not a high-upside guy but he could have a career like Tyler Motte, who is strictly a fourth-liner but gets one-way NHL contracts season after season and hasn't seen the AHL for seven years.

While I doubt preserving his Calder eligibility for next year is on the Canucks' mind, this preserves it, and lets Lekkerimaki join in time for the final regular season push and into what will hopefully be a long playoff run.

His play was progressing quite well and I thought he was getting more comfortable carrying the puck and holding on to it longer. He’s still about half a step slow in processing the speed of the NHL and several times defenders were able to close the gap on him as he’s releasing his shot. Still hasn’t figured out the spacing and timing.

Will be interesting to see how he does in the playoffs. A good playoff run + 5-10lbs heavier and I think he’s a lock to make the team next year.

He absolutely needs to gain some weight though and work on his strength.

Wonder if that’s because he gets pulled off the PP every couple games and barely plays more than 10 minutes.

Out of playoffs, 5 games left not playing him and building him up for next year is such a waste.

I think more than a few posters were skeptical, when Rutherford stated that his goal was 'to make Abbotsford the flagship franchise in the AHL'.

But hard to argue that he isn't well down to road towards delivering on that promise. I don't know how the attendance is holding up in the Valley. But you can't argue with the results on the ice.

Three straight 40-win seasons, and more importantly, the kids who head to Abbotsford all seem to improve dramatically. Not all of them will be NHL players of course-but overall, player development is light years ahead of when the Canucks AHL farm team was bouncing around in Chicago and eventually landing in Utica.

And the current squad is on a 13-game heater with some of their top players still in Vancouver. This roster could be downright scary heading into the Calder Cup Playoffs.

For attendance, looks like the Abbotsford Canucks have been averaging 4,085 fans per game. Capacity in the Abbotsford Centre is 7,046. That puts them at 24th out of 32 teams. I don't know whether or not to really consider that good or bad.

Love that we have the Twins working with the next wave in Abbotsford.

The whole Abbotsford Farm Team project has been a smashing success from an organizational standpoint.

Just fantastic vibes. Love it! What is the best option for catching Abbotsford in the playoffs if you're not local (though I do plan to go to Abbotsford and catch some games if I can)? I tried looking to see if Flo Hockey offers some kind of deal but couldn't find anything. Do I just have to pony up the $29.99 monthly rate? Are there other options?

It’s been pretty sparse attendance in several of the games I’ve been too. Even the ones that I would expect to be rather populated.

No idea why they aren’t more of a draw. Tickets are cheap and the games are a lot of fun. If the highway wasn’t a total nightmare could probably bump the attendance up significantly. As it is, pretty much just Abbotsford residents are going.

I really wish they could have put the team somewhere like Surrey near a skytrain station. Attendance would be so much higher with it being so much more accessible to the entire Metro Vancouver area.

I'd probably go to at least one game a month with buddies assuming tickets wouldn't be expensive.

Yeah Abbotsford is just so out of the way for people living in metro Vancouver. We just don't have the infrastructure/public transit to make going out there easy (which is a damn shame)

As an Abbotsford resident, no. f*** you guys. Let the valley people have something.

Have to admit my suspicions of Johnson as GM have to be reconsidered given the in season success on several levels. I'm curious to see if the team can get past the first round, as everything points to them being a bit of a powerhouse after their recent run of games.

It's really too bad Highway One is such a nightmare. But unfortunately the road-work probably won't finish until 2030.

They're six-laning the freeway all the way from Langley to Chilliwack, and the lane closures, gravel trucks and construction equipment is creating chaos. So I can understand why fans from north of the Fraser River aren't making the trek to Abbotsford for games.

But I imagine if the Canucks go on a long Calder Cup run, the barn will probably fill up in a hurry. It really is outstanding hockey, and cheap for families and people on fixed incomes.

But I'm not sure that if the Canucks AHL farm team played at the Pacific Coliseum--would attendance be any better?

Off topic, but this was proposed to be started in 2017 or 2018 by BC Liberals. NDP cancelled the project and now has restarted them with mandatory usage of building trades unions. Delaying that start is making that langley to abbotsford stretch a nightmare.

My kids do want to go to another game, no chance I pony up for going to a Van game, so maybe I try an Abby game.

I think I might break down and order Flo Hockey for next season. It's a lot more expensive than the old AHL Network, and there's a lot of other useless leagues and games you get as part of the package.

But if you can't attend the games in person, it's the next best thing, I guess.
