Time to switch to the big boys' game. 2-0 Abby early in the 2nd period, and Raty has a SH goal and an assist.

Jeez Louise... Lekkerimaki can really shoot. Wrister and one-timer both.
He also just shoots a LOT. Another 5 shots for him through 2 periods after 8 shots last game. I think he had 6 the game before and, well you get the idea.

Abbotsford gets the 3-1 win. Patera was on his way to his 2nd shutout of the season until the Gulls put one on the board with under a minute left. Raty and Stevens finished with 3 points and Lekkerimaki finished with an assist and 6 SOG to again lead the team.

This is a reason why some of us think Lekk will probably make it. Volume shooter + elite shot are a really good combo. It’s really hard to stop a guy like him from shooting when he can shoot it in every imaginable way. Take his space away? No matter he can one time it from wherever weird ass angle. Give him space, he has a lethal twister and slapper. Once he gets faster and bigger and gets better at getting open, he’s going to be scary.

Wouldn't shock me if Lekkerimaki gets the call to Vancouver sooner, rather than later. And once he's in an NHL lineup, I doubt they get him out.

You watch that game against the Sharks tonight......so many shots blocked or fired wide of the net. This Vancouver team just lacks true 'shooters'. Boeser might be the only guy--and even he's having trouble getting his shot through.

He's clearly the best forward prospect from our AHL teams in the last decade.

Sad part is the last prospect that has been good in the A is Raymond. I think Bo was only there for like a handful of games so don’t really consider that as a prospect that play in the A for us.

Michael Grabner comes to mind, he was after Raymond.

I don’t know if we are counting Jacob Markstrom’s AHL season, but he was phenomenal the year Utica went to the Calder Cup Finals.

But all that is to say…yeah, it’s been really slim pickings for a long time. In fairness, we had some top tier prospects make the jump straight to the NHL. But having a prospect like Lekkerimaki on the farm right now is fun.

When I wrote that, somehow I completely forgot about Hoglander and Podkolzin. But by the time they were sent down to Abbotsford, it was fairly clear that realistically they were middle-six potential only. So in terms of upside, Lekkerimaki is tops.

Were Kudryavtsev and Pettersson paired up for this game?
The way that it's been all season is that everybody plays with everybody at some point and they all switch sides a bit, too.

He may or may not be the 'best forward prospect' on the Canucks over the past decade, but one thing is for sure.

I certainly can't recall a prospect forward who shoots the puck like Lekkerimaki. He has the full arsenal......the slapper, the one-timer and a rapier-like wrister. And he gets it off so damned quick.

As the matures and gets bigger and stronger, it's almost a given that he has an NHL career. He'll survive and thrive based on his shooting ability alone.

Yeah totally forgot about Grabner

In all fairness to the poster, I think he said Lekkerimaki was probably the best AHL prospect in the last decade.

Grabner actually played two and half seasons in Manitoba from the 06-07 season, all the way through to the 08-09 season. I doubt Lekkerimaki will ever play in the AHL that long.
