I'd like to sign Mangiapane in the offseason. He's an excellent forechecker, strong defensively, a natural goalscorer, and has always been very productive 5on5.
I've always been a fan of Mangiapane. He's low key one of the best defensive wingers in the game. He's an excellent possession player too. That said, a natural goal scorer he is not. It's a toss up between him and Backlund on who was the guy who generates the most without scoring.

marner. i'd love to see it and i bet they'd do well.

They'd be great as 2 very high-end skill guys but they're 2 premium playmakers, need a finisher.

Problem for Ottawa is both lines (Norris and Stutzle) need to have Tkachuk and Batherson. Giroux is a legend but he turns 37 y/o in 2 weeks. Perron is also getting older and injured anyway. They miss a clear top-6 forward that would balance the top 2 lines

And that hole was created by Dorion with the DeBrincat acquisition. Staios did all he could to fix that situation (and the Korpisalo contract at the same time) but it's Linus Ullmark they ended up with in the end, not a forward.

Stutzle is a very skilled player, with a terrific all-around set of tools for offensive play.

He has burst acceleration, tight turns, excellent stick handling, sublime vision, heavy shot, and he’s not afraid to muck it up behind the net or along the boards. Now that he’s stronger and bigger, he’s throwing more hits the way he used to do in Junior.

But if there’s something about his play that uniquely stands out, it is his ability to maintain possession in tight quarters, such as near the blueline, and evade pursuit long enough to draw more and more opposing players to him.

He can almost mesmerize the opposition into chasing after him, opening up a lot of ice for his linemates.

At that point, he will find an open player with a pass for a very high quality scoring chance.

The ideal winger for Stutzle doesn’t have to be fast, but has to have the hockey IQ to go to the right places and be ready for the inevitable opportunity that Stutzle will deliver.

Anticipation and a shot with a quick release would be ideal.

Sometimes his wingers won’t expect the pass because he is creating offensive opportunities out of seemingly nothing, and they flub the shot or fail at receiving his hard passes cleanly.

Stutzle has the skill to maintain possession long enough for players to get into the zone and occupy quality positions around the net or as high trailers coming into the zone, so again, they don’t have to be speedsters, they just have to be smart and comfortable playing without the puck, ready to pounce when called upon.

Physical play would be nice but is not mandatory.
