This is how I imagine Chipman, Cheveldayoff and Lowry when the season ends.

I have no reservations about looking abroad for the head coach but I wouldn't be using national team performance as a barometer. There is a significant difference coaching a week tournament vs. coaching a full season of hockey. I would like to ensure the coach has a very strong track record in coaching club teams over there.

I'm telling you, this is the way to go -- we have "nothing to lose" right now, so give some "proven coach" with a good track record, preferably from Finland a shot. I think we'd all be surprised.

I have been saying for a while now that I don't understand why the NHL isn't utilizing coaching talent from Europe. We utilize player talent from there and that talent in many cases has clearly been coached well. Seems like a wasted and untapped resource, but old boys club is going to old boys club.

Clearly there will be risks with whoever we bring in this summer but I wouldn't mind being a first mover for once in this league.

wonder if the jets were to play a more physical style of game instead of a skilled type of hoity toity game if they were to win more games

Honeslty the fact we have a paper thin no depth forward lineup you would think the alternative would be a very high energy, physical
Play. Instead we get neither somehow. I'd love Tanev right about now

It amazes me how many goals against Mark Scheifele is on for. Despite being really hot for the last several weeks (and looking a little more interested too) he still leads the team with a -16.
The next closest is BooBoo at -9.
That just doesn’t cut it for what should be our best player.

Bring in Hedberg and Nilsson as coaches. It worked for us once before. :thumbu:

First lie giveth; guest line taketh away...
PLD/KFC/WTF?
Grind, grind, ye thirde lyne!
KVes has himself a game (again), PoGoNoGo, DomTon plays the right way
JMelo brill as per usual
DillyOnk sinking, plink-plonk
Say No to Beau; Schmidt a little less schiit

All in all, both did their best to serve up their worst game, but the Jets are just flat out better at losing

I would imagine a good many of them speak very good english, especially if they are from Sweden, Switzerland, or Finland.

Some no doubt, but I doubt it’s even 50% overall. Especially basic/broken English likely doesn’t cut it when trying to explain all the idiosyncrasies of NHL hockey. They might make better asst coaches until they become fluent in English

Morrissey is having a terrific year, his game has hit an even higher level the past month.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Do North American teams think these guys out in Europe are a bunch of dummies ?? -- I think not, and we should be one of the first teams to think out of the box, and hire the best coach out in Europe for the job, preferably from Finland, because their hockey and development programs are producing fantastic young players for the NHL. There are lots of good Finnish players in the NHL right now, and remember, there's only 5 million people there, so just the City of Toronto likely has more people, yet they produce NHL quality players.

Pionk is terrible and I can't wait until the Jets D is good enough for him to be sheltered on the bottom pairing like Myers was - he's a smaller slower Myers, that's it. He's not someone you build around.

I like Dillon since the Jets don't have any other physical defensemen, but if they could get decent value for him in a trade I'd take it and develop the young guys.

I'm on board with the rest.
That's a hot take...too bad it's nonsensical...but I admire your passion.

Perhaps, we are starting to see more European's in front offices so I think it is just a matter of time before we start to see them on coaching staffs. No issue with starting some as assistants and having them work up.

Agreed, let them learn English fluently and learn the NHL game…..eventually give them a bigger shot

Don't disagree that explaining intricate concepts in a second (or 3rd, or 5th) language isn't easy, but we've seen plenty of European coaches succeed brilliantly in the EPL over the past decades, so it can certainly be done.

And honestly, listening to some NHL coaches' pressers -- step forward, Dave Lowry! -- is so painful that I'm not sure how sophisticated and comprehensible their tactical explanations are likely to be, even if their command of English meets national standards.

Finally saw a replay on Sportsnet. White between puck and line was clear, it was in. Don't know why they didn't challenge high stick though...nothing to lose. But that looked ok too really.
