But they do suck. And they're there because they played and because of who they know.

Coaches and GM's too. That's something that's rampant in the sport in general.

So when somebody says "I supported giving her a chance" that doesn't automatically contradict what they're saying. That's the norm in hockey.
They may suck but you don't have to listen to them.... Play by play announcers are on during the actual game and unavoidable unless you want to mute the entire game.

She doesn't have the skill for this role, the voice for the role or the experience .... I'd like to see how her interview went.

I cant believe there are people who actually defend her and say she's good. I see it on twitter and reddit. This has nothing to do with her being a woman. It's all to do with that she f***ing sucks at this job. The espn broadcasts in general haven't been great, but this is on an entirely different level. It's a joke.
Some social media platforms actively support specific agendas, and some aspects are even automated. And the inverse is also true.

The one positive thing I got out of the shootout disaster was her "There you have it". That's the birth of an organic meme if I've ever seen one.

Leah Hextall ladies and gentlemen, there you have it!
That's right up there with Doc Emmerick's "Driiiiiive!!!" and Pierre's "Double Dion". Leah has finally made it.

So you don't think hitting the mute button on your remote would make Hextall's voice leave your living room?

K.
I think comparing muting a game which features oodles of noises besides an incompetent commentator with not voluntarily entering a 500 post thread knowing what the thread is about is silly.

Ducks
Do I think she’s good? No. Did she make a mistake? Yes. Does it matter? Not really.

I’m a Ducks fan and didn’t even notice what she said during the shootout. Who really cares. It’s not like she’s going to be doing high stakes playoff games. So what you gotta listen to her a few times in the regular season.

She probably makes less mistakes and takes her job more seriously then 95% of the people in the thread bashing her.

Outside of the shootout I thought she did a very good job with the play by play for the San Jose/Anaheim game. I enjoyed the broadcast 🤷‍♂️

My wife heard her and she she liked her.
Should I immediately leave my wife and children to fend for themselves?

Almost every male working in hockey is hired because they're within the bubble of hockey and that's just normal.

She does suck at commentary and it's fine to say that, but it's only with Leah Hextall that people wanna fight nepotism, it seems like.

Again, she sucks, but so do the studio shows where Bissonnette, Messier, and Chelios give me CTE by proxy.
It’s not only her, but it’s more acknowledged consistently for her because plenty of people can and will tune out of Messier and Chelios’ bland ass intermissions, whereas the in game commentators and game sounds typically add to the game (incidentally I think she’d be a great addition to the studio if they expanded the desk. She or someone personable like her might bring the more loose, fun side of those guys out like Biz does with Tocc and Gretz). They’ve been acknowledged to only be there because of their names.

If Jack Edwards or the old Sabres guy got a prime pbp job where you had to watch them to watch a certain game you wanted to see, they would get way more complaints than they already do/did

I think Hextall being so much more annoying, because her position is the most prominent of the hockey broadcast and pbp voice part sets the tone of the game, makes people even more resentful of how she got that job than other avoidable guys.

Also with her, her being personable has gotten better but it’s both her voice and the awkward pauses and or sounding lost making us wonder if she’s actually following the game.

Edwards is a jackass, but at least his loud voice and energy fits the role better and I can tolerate him for a game. The bias is something I can just tolerate as I get that’s basically his job as the local guy

Can agree to disagree on lumping Biz with messier and Chelios. They bring a completely different approach to their desk and I think way more people appreciate the fairly unique (to hockey broadcasts) “vibe” or whatever he’s helped foster. Either way, their studio show is just as avoidable as ESPNs if you want to only see the game
