The greats did not sharpen their skills calling national games for ESPN. If the purpose is to grow the game, we need someone on the call who isn't getting overwhelmingly and nearly universally negative feedback online. The only way to develop is practice. All the greats started somewhere too.
She might be an amazing colleague and her colleagues there see potential. It is not all about what happens online. Some jobs need to be taught in a high-pressure environment. The greats did not sharpen their skills calling national games for ESPN. Frankly, ESPN's crews are D-, they have zero flow for the game, they all talk too much about nonsense. Its really a sad showing. They bring back hockey then they bring in so many trash crews. Is the guy Dom more of a studio guy who occasionally does games or the other way around? He honestly isn’t great himself, he was worse than her. He doesn’t say much at times, lots of space. They honestly shouldn’t be a pair
Leah still has the occasional bad goal call, and I could tell she was literally unsure reading her notes in the middle of talking at one point in that video (said the same thing three times quickly with a different inflection lol), but she’s definitely gotten a lot better. Still not gonna be my favorite option to call the cup final one day, but at least from what’s in that shortened version she wasn’t painful
She’s vastly better than last year. Last year it was a constant surge of excitement. She’s toned it down substantially. Much more tolerable but still not great. But give her credit for putting in the work to improve. Is the guy Dom more of a studio guy who occasionally does games or the other way around? He honestly isn’t great himself, he was worse than her. And when you get them together.... Last night was just painful.... That said I am still waiting on the edge of my seat for the rest of Dom Moores story.Frankly, ESPN's crews are D-, they have zero flow for the game, they all talk too much about nonsense. IDGAF what anyone says, Hextall is one of the worst things imaginable. Sometimes last year she appears to not even be prepared, atleast during the wings games. Moore is horrible, doesnt have a personality or voice for TV. Its great they want to do it, i get it. but its not working.
ESPN sucks... edited bc I didn't want to get banned, not worth it.The NHL and especially ESPN has to be aware of how badly she is received.
She is fine between the benches. Nobody would say she isn't knowledgable but she simply is not pbp material. Why are they trying to force her into a role that gets her nothing but vitriol?
Is this virtue signaling on steroids? Are they afraid of the backlash they would receive if she was moved from pbp? Lawsuits?
There have to be ulterior motives to have a person be in such a prominent position without having the proper tools for that position.
This is actually a thought I had this morning when I saw a clip posted somewhere of her from the other night. She sounds like a college/minor league level PBP with the awkward pauses and mistakes. She is literally learning while being at the top level of the profession. Her voice doesn't help but I guess that's more of a preference. It's nails on a chalkboard to me.Nice to see someone getting paid top dollar to learn a job.
