except that she does in fact have a career in broadcasting.
What about you??
Funny this place is. We can’t say anything about teams or players that may be hurtful but we can go to town slamming people…
Ridiculous.
Maybe HFBoards needs to rethink their priorities.

Most posters are just stating the obvious. She is very inept.

No one needs to slam her. No one needs to even bring up her gender either.

The simple matter is she sucks.

I think she is decent at describing the play but her voice doesnt travel well at all. Her low voice sounds like an adult talking to a 3 year old and her high voice has no strength to it so it just sounds weird when she reacts to a big chance/save.

There are plenty of very competent women and men on tv, just hire the best one.

Holy just listened to one of her broadcasts recently and i gotta say it was absolutely painful. Had to turn it off.

Hiring people just to have diversity in these types of jobs is just plainly off putting and reduces my dwindling interest in the NHL these days She sucks and so does the pathetic goalie equipment and diving that has reduced the league to a game of bounces and game management

So incredible going from the amazing job the NFL does and then watching amateur hour NHL production and entertainment. Bettman has done a great job lining owners pockets but for people like myself who are old enough to have watched the golden ages in the late 80s and early 90s the entertainment value is just sad especially with how talented the players are now.

Please tell me she’s not doing the Devils - Sharks tomorrow. If she is, I may just pony up and go to the game. She’s THAT bad

Hahaha I've done this before when I know a broadcaster is coming through that I want no part of.

I cannot believe she is still calling games and I don’t understand how she got the gig in the first place. Someone had to have heard her prior to her first official PxP call ? How could they possibly hear her and think “ Bingo!! You nailed it Leah! You are hired!”
And how can she go from whatever the hell she was doing before (reporting and writing ?) to a PxP announcer without putting in time calling minor league games amd working your way up. I’m this case , there is no way in hell she could have “earned “her way to the NHL.

Anyone who blames it on her gender for the bashing are just gaslighting and ignorant.

She's terrible because she's shitty at her job, not because of what she has between her legs.

She is flat out f***ing terrible, I am firing off a complaint to Sportsnet.

This 100%

If you pick someone for the job, pick the best one.

Why is Hirsch still getting over looked in everything BTW?, (i know that i have mentioned this before in this thread lol)
she is crazy good at her job, been for years for the NHL Network, she is a sports journalist
at trait, who has worked her ass off, hard, to get to where she is at.

Her voice is awesome and she knows how to use it right,
she knows loads about sports, ice hockey included. She knows how to
say the names correctly too, which shows dedication for the job;
taking the time to learn. Highly respectful.

is there a fancy social media term for a visible minority who gets a job solely because they are a visible minority, and not because they deserve it?

Good announcers have a certain kind of strength to their voice. 1990's Bob Cole was probably the best. I think you are losing something going from Bob Cole to Leah Hextall, call me crazy.

It's funny, I was listening to a female play by play announcer the other day and this thread came to mind. Yeah it is a different but I didn't see it as a horrible thing at all. Just different from what I was used to. I found this announcer was actually pretty good and wasn't blasting my ear off, allowing me to focus on the game. Yeah there were some dead air spots but quite clearly they are learning the trade, which from what I gather Hextall is doing. I didn't mind the cadence and verbiage overall (although she uses the words 'collect' and 'cash' too often) and kind of wondered just how bad Hextall would be compared to her. As it turns out, it was Hextall I was listening to and I didn't even know it.

Perhaps some of you should embrace change and quit being so judgemental. 29 pages and counting on a play by play announcer that happens to be a woman. I say good on Hextall for doing what she is doing, it is a good thing for the industry. And I could care a less if this is going against the grain of this thread.

I've noticed she mixes up players all the time. Sad that Gary Thorne is sitting at home.

On a side not Bob Wischusen has quietly been becoming one of my favourite hockey broadcasters.

Wouldn't it be better for the "industry" if they hired someone competent to be that role: man or woman?

Personally, I don't care about the gender of the person doing the pbp. Pam Ward does a fine job calling football for ESPN, IMO. If they want to have a female in that role, there has to be better options than Hextall.

She is very bad. Does not know how to call a game with any sense of urgency. Sounds like she's describing paint drying.
