Slept through the first showing of Wizard of Oz.... hopefully I'll make it through the second ..... As long as I see the 'horse of a different color' I'm good....

' 39 was a very good year for movies.
Right after my 8th birthday I was sledding at a golf course with my dad. We were the only two people there at a hill normally packed with kids. I took a really nasty fall and yelled up to my father that my leg was broken. Doing what any dad would do, he said “you’re fine. Just get up and walk.” So i stood up, and when i attempted to take a step my left leg crumbled. So he dragged me back to the car in my sled, and we went to the hospital (after getting yelled at by mom back at home.)

I only tell this story because i was in the waiting room long enough to watch the wizard of oz straight through, with commercials, before getting called in.

Clean break to my tibia and fibula. Had a cast for 16 weeks. Get up and walk. Thanks pops.

Who needs pops.. 2 xmas's ago I slipped on an icey balcony. Went down grabbing my knee. A few expletives may have come out. Told myself "get up you wimp." Crumpled right back down. Doctor told me the second was probably worse than the first. Broken fibula, ruptured ACL and torn meniscus. Sucks getting old.

I've learned my lesson with this as a parent. Five year old daughter had a fall at daycare two weeks before starting Kindergarten. She stayed at the center for the next 5 hours and when we picked her up the staff told us she was favoring her arm and they thought it may have been extended, but did not give any indication it was serious. My daughter spent the next 6 days intermittently complaining about pain in her arm and mostly cradling it to her chest but otherwise going on with her usual foolishness. Since the pain would mostly crop up at times that seemed convenient to her, we thought she was milking it or being a little soft. After six days we took her to the doctor and it was revealed she had a fractured arm and she needed a cast for her first two months of kindergarten. So she went six days with a broken arm with no protection. Rather than being soft, she was being absurdly tough. I absolutely learned my lesson. You take complaints from your kids seriously until you know for a fact it is not serious.

Getting old is a challenge for sure!

The Wizard of Oz used to be on TV once a year. We always watched it.

It is (IMO) a great movie!

We have gone to tanglewood the past two years to see the Pops play the live score to a movie. 1st year is was Star Wars empire strikes back and this year it was Harry Potter.

I really hope its either ET or the wizard of ozz this year. I am not a huge classical music fan but the live movie experience, IMO is better than seeing a pop concert at Tanglewood because it still have the orchestra and the awesome acoustics. Plus hanging out on the lawn in is a great time.

The human body is truly a mystery even with all the medical advances and therapies.

My fibula had a giant hole in it from two failed ankle surgeries and I managed to walk on it for close to 3 years before it was fixed. I have a very high pain toleranceso when I complain of pain, something is not right. If I did complain, people would tell me to suck it up and it was my own fault so I stayed quiet. I fell out of nowhere in the fall of 2010 and that led to the discovery of just how bad things were. How my fibula stayed in tact is a medical mystery.

It is amazing how relentless the body lets us be and the ways it will compensate or "build around" a deficiency to keep us functioning.

We really are the Terminators of the animal world. Even our hunting style early on was simply "I can walk longer than you so I'll just follow you for hours until you're exhausted". That's some horror movie stuff

As relentless as it is, the body will also let you know when it is tired of compensating. Living through SI joint and calf issues now because of how long I was using crutches and/or a walking boot.

A bit late, but

How did I forget The Bangles cover of Hazy Shade of Winter was for the soundtrack of Less Than Zero? In my alternate reality, it was an album cut. I"m slowly being convinced the 80s were more of a blur than I realize.

Love these overnight database migrations and system upgrades. Will it take 20 minutes or 5 hours? Currently sitting at 2+ hours and not only are we showing no signs of ending, but now there are application issues. My piece just finished up at least, so I think I can just kinda sit in the shadows and wait for news.

And as I type this, the news is pretty bad. I have a sneaking suspicion all of this is getting torn down and we will attempt another night.

Still no signs of a resolution. This has officially altered my schedule for the day.

Yesterday was going very well....knee was feeling good....thought I turned the corner

Was sitting at the island having lunch and saw a little bit of crusting and drainage at the bottom of the suture line. Wife at work, so I sent her a pic (she's a veterinarian) Says call Dr
Dr says come in. No one at home, so I make my way out to my truck, manage to get in, and drive 1/2 hour to Dr.

Long walk from parking lot to his office....takes a look....it's all good.

Repeat the process in reverse....knee didn't like that.....major swelling.

Hoping today I can back to where I was yesterday morning

Are you in Maine yet? Or is that move post knee replacement?
