Hard to say.
A lot can happen in 3 years.
All 3 California teams are primed to rebuild, draft heavy moving forward and have assets like Kopitar,Doughty,Burns,Couture to sell off.

They could be in prime positions to offer one player more than you can afford to keep.
Plus they are UFA (thanks Kyle), you can’t match it.

It may not happen but it’s foolish to sit there and say lol never. I’m sure the Islanders said lol never.
I don’t think teams will look to sign a 10mil plus UFAs after the JT to Leafs. Surely GMs know that signing someone like JT with a young team will do more harm than anything.

I keep seeing ppl posting that we traded for damaged goods but I don't remember seeing anything at the time about Foligno playing through injury? He looked fine when he first got here.

I could have missed it at the time but if ppl are reacting to him getting hurt after the trade happened, then its just a reach to knock Dubas.
1 day before the trade. Make your own conclusions. If our pusher of fake news comes your way, as he already did in this thread, ask for facts. He has none.

I think it will still happen. Panarin signed for 11.5 after tavares.
But NY didn’t have a young and upcoming core. They actually don’t have anything of note and need the fans. Fox came out of nowhere, and I think they only had Kappo as a true top line prospect. Trouba and Zibe along with their goalies and a few top 6 forwards.

No, it's just people making shit up because they're mad.

Blue Jackets' Nick Foligno: Sidelined with upper-body issue

Now the Dubites will argue that this was to keep him out of the line prior to the trade deadline (which may be true). But an upper body injury was reported.

He did have to quarantine for 14 days, so maybe if there was an injury the doctors felt 2 weeks off will be enough to heal it. Who knows for sure?

Thanks. Did not see this. If there was actually an injury prior to the trade, then it's on Dubas and the medical staff for not doing their due diligence.

Nick Foligno might be worth a first round pick if he was still in his 20s and had 2 years left on a reasonable contract. And of course he was healthy for the playoff run that we acquired him for.

Nick Foligno, Playoff Rental, and 1st Round Pick should never all appear in the same sentence.

There is such a thing as a healthy scratch, no reason at all to report an injury.

Yup, not sure the advantage of reporting an injury, unless they were trying to keep it quiet from the rest of the CBJ team for some reason.

If we don't win a playoff round next yr or don't make the playoffs

If there are rumors that Mathews that he wishes to play in Arizona and he won't sign an extension after next season .

Due you trade him at the 2022 draft.

Arizona is going to suck and be in the lottery .
Hopefully 1st overall
Shane Wright is a consensus 1st pick
Plus
Connor Garland +

Trade
Marner as well

Love both of these players but if they can't get it done the we need big changes.
Matty will only ever get traded for either MAC or McJesus that's it .. if McJesus decides he wants out in a year or two then deal gets done .. any other trade is a loss for Leafs

He flat out told the media that the injury he had was something he had "been dealing with" all season and it was just tweaked a bit the first time he was out of our lineup. So, what does that say about Dubas when the type of player Foligno is/was is too injured to play the way you need him to play?

It's like buying a Ferrari with wheel problems. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Trading Matthews is a pretty bad idea. But letting him walk as a UFA is worse.

If he refuses to sign an extension, then make a trade happen. Otherwise, he should be kept. An overpayment is acceptable, if necessary.

If Matthews will not re-sign there is only one option without debate.
Get your ducks aligned to sign Connor McDavid 2026-27

lol, the best players in any sport want to win, but they also want and fame and as much money as possible during their careers, nobody outside of arizona would care about matthews in arizona. in a big market he can make alot more money, have a much more recognizable brand etc, thats very important to todays athlete.

this whole thing about wanting to go back home is just dumb, hes done nothing but speaking glowingly about toronto.
he stays...period.
