Value of: A 2nd line center to Montreal.

I was just pointing out the irony that this wouldn't even be a conversation if your GM would have been OK with giving up Dach for PLD two years ago.

Jets fans took a lot of shit from Habs fans in those threads... I'm just coming here to point this out

How about Namestnikov for Dach and a late 1st lol

This isn’t interesting.

No thanks on the proposal.

I don’t think Barzal is the right fit. But I’d prefer trade someone unproven that has value for someone who is already proven and the age of this current core. Who knows how long it’ll take Hage. Even if it’s when he’s 23, that’s 4 years away. And unfortunately for the Habs, Newhook and the rest don’t have any value to other teams

I tend the agree Barzal is not the right fit for what type we are after. We actually need someone like Dubois IMO. A physical center who can take a load off of Suzuki with usage in any situation.

Who's the proven guy? Remember, teams just don't trade top 2C's close to Suzuki's age for unproven assets. Usually, what is available is 30+ guys in decline years and on bloated contracts.

Probability says we need a stop gap (Duchene for example) and we allow Hage to develop. Could be a massive mistake to trade Hage before he turns pro and you don't really know how good he is. We did that with Sergachev.

Duchene fits and we have the cap structure to pay him for 2 years and be competitive with any offer other teams can make. This only costs unused cap space... no assets spent.

Duchesne is the best play. Costs nothing but cap space like you said, which we have during those 2 years. He is effective right now to help Demidov/Slaf (whichever ends un on the second line). He brings veteran presence in the forward group. As a stopgap, he enables patience with the development of Hage.

+, you get to keep those picks and can draft twice in the mid first round, or trade up. So you have more darts than Hage for that future 2C. And the chosen one will come on an ELC when it starts to matter.

Duchene would be a good fit for the current needs, but according to multiple posters, he's not interested in playing in Canada.

I haven't seen or read that personally, but it seems it's out there.

I'd be intrigued of the cost to acquire Malkin from Pittsburgh.
He has shown clear signs of decline the past 2 years and is going to start next season at 39 years old, but could be the perfect mentor to Demidov.

Not sure if he would waive to come here and the cost.

Pens 2nd back + Roy + Struble VS Malkin ?

So we offer Duchene 20M for 2 years?

Alright, here goes my galaxy-brain tonfoil.

CHI receives (assuming they end up with the 2nd pick at the draft lottery) : Slafkovský.

MON receives : The 2nd overall, and then they draft Michael Misa.

Is that with the table cover pulled out from under?

That crap doesn't come closevto getting karlin.
I just said it would definately be on the table , feel free to add other pieces if you want

We are just discussing for the fun of it , 2 mid first and a good D prospect is a good start I think , agree it would probably take more

I remember as a Jets fan asking for Dach and the Calgary 1st for PLD and being told that Dach was untouchable

Any Habs fans want to reconsider that trade now?

The Habs just finished the season with 68 points and were one year removed from a 55 point season, there was no reason to trade for a more proven centre at the time since the team sucked ass.

Even in hindsight it was better for the Habs not to do that.

- Who knows which PLD the Habs would've got, the LA version or the Winnipeg/Washington version. Given he would've been stuck playing with guys like Newhook, Anderson, Armia and Gallagher on the Habs second line, my guess is his point totals would've looked like the ones he had on LA.
- Calgary exceeded expectations, so the Habs got the 16th pick this year instead of getting Florida's
- Habs' re-signed Monahan for centre depth and got a first round pick for him from Winnipeg.
- Habs finished with 76 points last year and ended up with Demidov at 5th overall, adding PLD would've added a few more points and made them pick later.
