They'll likely announce the full schedule and perhaps ticket prices.

Poor Zdeno Chara. He's gotta stand there like an idiot and pretend that he's looking forward to playing for Team Leftover.

Kopitar too. Both will glance at each other and wonder WTF they are doing there.

Its pretty embarrasing for him, Im still surprised the NHL stuck to the idea despite admitting already its a one-off.

The thing that sucks most about this tournament is that it could at least still be cool without those two random throw together teams. Like the 2004 World Cup wasn't as prestigious as the Olympics, but it was still damn fun. Everyone got excited to make their rosters and the hockey was fun, and players still got to play for their country in real rivalries.

But these two random teams ruin all that. Like McDavid doesn't even have a chance to wear the Maple Leaf...? Eichel won't get even a sniff of joining rivalries against the likes of Russia against the U.S.? Chara doesn't get to continue to represent the Slovak flag? I have no interest in watching Ekblad in an young jersey against Kopitar in like what, a random purple jersey?

I could be wrong, but is there not even a team Switzerland? All the hard work they put in developing their program and they aren't invited...? What?

I love seeing lower ranked countries compete with the top countries and see their progression. Also, everyone loves rooting for an underdog team to win.

I hope there's contract signing that ends with Chara hitting every one with a steel chair.

This strikes me as something cobbled together by some know-nothings in marketing and now the NHL is sticking with it because they don't want to admit the league is run by morons.

I mean if the two joke teams are such a great idea, why is the NHL so sure it'll be a one-off? Why would they feel the need to make that assurance? It's like they're admitting "Yeah OK, this event will be a total joke, but at least it'll be somewhat serious in 2020!"

Yep, I hate when people/organizations are just too stubborn to back off stupid ideas, in fear of the stupidity being proven. I mean, audio clips have existed since the ASG of Bettman saying its a one-off idea yet they just dont wanna back down....

WCoH schedule out

Well a big thing about this tourney was ESPN was broadcasting, but the only game I see getting big ratings is that Can-USA game by itself on a Tuesday.

USA games will then go up against college football Sat, and college football on Thursday. Does a Thurs USA-Cze game bump CFB to ESPN2?

Overall, the Finals goes up against NFL Thurs, and possibly CFB Saturday, but gets another Tuesday by itself for GM1. Semis also go against CFB Sat, and NFL Sun.

What do people think of the schedule and how it lines up for tv both in the USA and Canada?

If it goes up against CFB and the NFL, they will lose a lot of viewers. I bet people will still give it a try and get decent ratings but not amazing like they are expecting.

99% of Americans won't know the event is even being played. They'll turn on their TV to find Sweden vs the YoungGunz and will think they stumped upon some minor league game and change channels.

There's a reason this is being played exclusively in Toronto. It's the only place the NHL knows has enough suckers for bad product to guarantee half-decent attendance.

Of course Kopitar is on stage representing the Leftovers. He's basically why the team exists.

"It's gonna be different." No kidding.

I watched this, and regret doing so. Absolutely cringe worthy questions being asked on the stage.

It was telling that many Canadian players were asked, "how does it feel," and many of the players answered that there is "no better feeling than wearing your country's colours and representing your country." Meanwhile, Anze Kopitar and Zdeno Chara and the rest of the European countries not worthy of being there look on. What an insult.

Help me out here,

If by some chance the U-23 win should I feel happy or sad? They will have Canadian players that I really like but it also means Team Canada lost.

It's like a glass case of emotions.

EDIT: The reaction on twitter about what players will be eligible to which teams is going to be painful to explain to the average fan.

Reminds me of this...
