Ovechkin has 5 whole shots this entire tournament. This is not some masterpiece work from toews.

The Toews line was the teams best possession line despite being buried in their own end. It was pretty damn masterfull.

Floorball:
Draws a huge number of Swedish athletes into this game.

And then there is bandy. Football on ice.

Never heard of Bandy until yesterday. (while reading on Russian hockey history) Looks like it's a really fun participation sport. Though the stick used confuses this old hockey player.

Yup they were only a decent coach and a couple of teenagers away from success. You do realize that the US has not won a men's tournament in 20 ****ing years don't you? There are more problems with US Hockey than player selection.

maybe if they had eikel. ;)

It's a really fun game, same with floorball :)

Agree. Pietrangelo's in pre-season form and I don't expect much from the rest with the puck. Did you notice that Doughty was the only one rushing the puck? The rest were all making bad breakout passes, the best strategy was honestly when they just give a short pass in their own zone to a Tavares or Duchene to rush it up the ice.

A couple guys need to be scratched for the next game since it's a best of 3 to send a message to wake up. I'd say Pietrangelo or Burns and Stamkos.

Good points. If I am a Tampa fan, I am very concerned about Stamkos right now. He makes his living finishing, and he doesn't look like he has the hands he used to. Hopefully he is just snakebitten and this is not a sign of his decline.

I think Canada showed that they are beatable, if only the US had built a proper team with focus on speed and skill they could have won this thing.
um no lol Canada still would have the more skilled and deeper team and nobody has more heart than Canada.

How do you measure who have more heart than an another? I mean, all of them have been giving their life to Hockey. So what makes Canadians have more heart?

well to be honest this is the best i have seen Crosby play in an international tournament. He really has not played well in any of the other tournaments as a whole. But at this world cup he has played good from the start and created lots.

I don't completely disagree, but I also think his role has changed from being a part of the machine in other tournaments to being himself in this one.

I would accredit that to a loosening of the reigns by Babcock and the fact that this tournament is less intense because of its nature, at least so far. There is not the same need for stifling defence on the small ice.

This is the same reason that whenever I hear quasi-hockey fans cheer the idea of big ice as this wheeling and dealing brand of hockey, I say they have it exactly backwards. Big ice requires more system and less creativity and fore-checking, not the other way around.

Behind that laugh is serious concern. Keep whistling past the graveyard, the day of reckoning will come for Canadian hockey and it will be at the hands of the mighty eagle.

This is the best I've seen Crosby play since he went out with spinal/concussion problems.

Yup. He is less straight up dominant offensively, but his overall game is better than back then. He is such a 200-feet machine nowadays. His chemistry with Bergeron and Marchand is beautiful. Best line he has ever played on.

As the late Red Sox announcer Ned Martin used to say; "If ifs and buts were candies and nuts, we'd all have a hell of a Christmas."

Crosby was really good in 2014 and yet the points did not come like they have this tournament. Finally finding him a compatible LW in Marchant (who can play at the pace required at this level, unlike Kunitz) has made a significant difference. Bergeron has always been great with Crosby.

Oveckin cant win no nothing. Crosby stands up again. Take it or leave it, its the best on best. Fanboy galore is for next regular season :D

Quite easy, by the way they play and how committed they are. Maybe heart isn't the right word and commitment is.

They gave him linemates he has chemistry.with from the get go. That is the main difference.

Last time, they didn't give him Bergeron until the medal round. In 2010, they didn't give him Bergeron at all.

You make a good point. Not only is USA's players significantly behind Canada, their management and coaching is also even further. USA needs to get into finals or gold medal games before they get considered a top calibre hockey country. Behind Sweden, Russia, and Finland. Individual players might be better, but in international tournaments they still struggle, which is again where USA needs to improve. Coaching and management.

Yeah, that i can probably back up for. Don't forget that Canadas team is very stacked and better than Russia. I think Russia put up a fair battle.
