I know the tournament is not ever yet but if I were Canadian I'd be worried about the state of the game of hockey. To be the best at the game you create and that you are pretty much the only ones to actually play is pretty disturbing. Some other countries do have some good players, but this game is played so much more in Canada that it doesn't make much sense to have any international tournaments. Some countries such as the Czech Republic don't even produce top end players anymore, to some etent the same can be said about other countries, for instance Russia, which stopped producing defensemen 10 years ago. What's left? Canada A vs. Canada B. The NHL should look into it for the next World Cup. Or let each province ice its own team and add Russia and Sweden to the mix.

At the same time, Canadian players fill an all-time low of NHL roster spots.

International development is strong, particularly in the USA and Sweden. Russia is still strong too. But national federations don't alway choose well or foster team unity.

On a positive note: Some of your young forwards are insanely good (Panarin, Kucherov!!!) and Bob is a monster when he's on his game.

Was almost afraid he pulled a "Halak" on us, after two periods.

Maybe it's good that he didn't. Russia can fire Znarok soon.

I think Canada showed that they are beatable, if only the US had built a proper team with focus on speed and skill they could have won this thing.

Crosby continues to prove why he is truly the best player of this generation.

I have to say, our defence is pretty sloppy, though. I sure hope that by the next Olympics Ekblad and maybe Letang are there. We need guys who can handle the puck a little better.

Agree. Pietrangelo's in pre-season form and I don't expect much from the rest with the puck. Did you notice that Doughty was the only one rushing the puck? The rest were all making bad breakout passes, the best strategy was honestly when they just give a short pass in their own zone to a Tavares or Duchene to rush it up the ice.

A couple guys need to be scratched for the next game since it's a best of 3 to send a message to wake up. I'd say Pietrangelo or Burns and Stamkos.

Congrats to Canada. This was an easy tournament for them. 4 games, 4 easy dominant wins, with 2 easy wins left until the Cup, parades, floats, mirrors. They haven't even had to work up a sweat in any of the games, and the next 2 could be even easier.

Russia didn't play badly. They played as well as they are capable of playing. Bobrovsky was magnificent - he kept them in the game for 2 periods that they shouldn't have been in. At least we did much better than the United States, Finland and the Czechs, so it wasn't a total loss.

The next 2 games should be as interesting as watching guys fish.

Canada wins, no surprise there.

I wasn't worried, ever. When Russia scored to make it 2-1, I said thats fine, it'll make things interesting and I went back to baking cookies with the wife.

Wait what? I would of swore people were picking sweden and russia to move on. Finland and team north america were supposed just left for dead in that group.

Actually pretty much all Canadian media were saying Russia would not advance.

The Hockey News:

There is also the stubborn matter of including KHLers on the roster. Not that World Cup organizers care, but these players are below NHL caliber and often struggle when confronted by the elite NHLers (Sidney Crosby and Jonathan Toews, for example) who play in this type of short event. While the Russians have faith in them based on their KHL play, where will they hide them on the ice in Toronto? The Russians selected three such forwards.

THN's Prediction: 6th

Funny thing Telegin was much better than their many NHL forwards.

THN also said Team Europe will be 7th and Finland will reach semifinal. They definitely know what they are talking about :sarcasm:

Did you thought the same when the Soviets were winning almost everything?

Anyway, I remembered a time when Americans and Europeans were looking down on Canadian hockey and were saying that our days were numbered, that we didn't dominate anymore, that most of the top 10 players were not Canadian anymore. Well we took that to heart and changed our ways and here are the results. Europeans could maybe do the same and learn from your failures instead of you pointing at Canada because your program isn't up to par. Other nation's failures aren't Canada's responsibility.

This canadian dominance on mens best on best is pretty much right in line with the dominance that happened in the world jrs from 2002-2009. 3 silver and 5 golds in a row in that period. Most of those players are now moved onto the mens stage and are taking over.

Oveckin has one SOG and the Toews line still has yet to be scored on. Craziness.

Crosby continues to own Ovi when it counts.

how did zaitsev have a higher CF% than any other player on either team

that's so impressive

Can't wait for Crosby-McDavid down the middle, 1-2.

Congratulations to Canada. Russia did its best, but without defense (Emelin, Kulikov, and especially Markov were all terrible) and without PP, they had no fighting chance.

I like you,yor optimism,other reality,yep.you re great,you can do it,everything

Bobrovsky kept it close as long as he could and Russia used their quick-strike offense as best as they could, and eventually the better team overwhelmed Russia's relatively weak defense.

This World Cup should quiet those who say Crosby has never dominated a top-level tournament.
well to be honest this is the best i have seen Crosby play in an international tournament. He really has not played well in any of the other tournaments as a whole. But at this world cup he has played good from the start and created lots.

Yup they were only a decent coach and a couple of teenagers away from success. You do realize that the US has not won a men's tournament in 20 ****ing years don't you? There are more problems with US Hockey than player selection.
