This isn't always true. Sometimes a fantastic goalie covering up for an overmatched defense has to make highlight-reel saves. That mantra is so pervasive it's usually taken out of context and is applied wrong.

Of course it depends on the situation. The types of goalies I mean with this: Reto Berra

Price is a brilliantly boring goalie.

Malkin
Stamkos
Pietrelangelo
Ovechkin
Tarasenko
Kuznetsov

Just garbage

If a bunch of star forwards like that are playing that badly then you kno something is wrong with the style. Their zone breakouts and defence is good they just don't know what to do with the puck it seems.

Pietrangelo has been disappointing though, he can be better than this but in fairness to him, it's his off side he's playing is it not?

Getzlaf and Stamkos both average for me but at least Getzlaf can slow it down or play well below the red line.

I wonder how Hasek would do today.

You saw how Price saved the shot by Panarin on the give and go, right? Completely effortless. Most highlight reel saves are caused by a mistake in positioning or execution before the play itself.

Hasek would be far and away the best goaltender in the NHL today.

You could combine prime Price, Lundqvist, Luongo, etc into one goaltender, and they wouldnt be as good as him. Hasek is a top-3 goaltender all time, arguably the best goaltender peak in NHL history.

Russia didnt have a single grade A chance. Most shots were played without much effort because nothing required it. A goaltender would have had to play pretty poor positionally to have let up a goal that period.

Why on earth do they keep calling Stamkos a 60 goal scorer. He did that once many moons ago. Ovie is never referred to as that and he's at least still capable of doing it.

Panarin's shot was a green shot.

Funny how people are saying how Canada was just "ok".

Outshot a Russia 17-7
Winning FO 72% to 28%

Bob is the only reason it's 1-0.

Good:
- Crosby is a monster. McDavid might become one day the best player in the NHL, but not this year. Just a total beast.

- Markov still has it and he's not out of place in that game. Good for you, old man! Also, Emelin don't suck, so that's good for the Habs.

- Price's ok.

- The PK is awesome.

- Bob is a total brick wall. He had no chances on Crosby's goal, but holy ****, who knows? He might pull a "Halak" on us.

The Bad:

- Kullikov sucks.

- Malkin is a ghost.

- Burns isn't playing his best game, let's say this.

- Russia's PP is a joke, and the coaches should be ashamed of that.

Panarin's shot was a green shot.

And how many did Bobrovsky have to deal with?

Do you think Canada is losing with Holtby? Or tied? I dont.

I dont get bolstering Price for saves you expect a elite goaltender to make. If the Panarin shot went in on Price, Lundqvist, Holtby, Bobrovsky, etc most would have said it was mediocee.

Good point. But if you know how to watch goalies, Price is fascinating. And he wasn't so good his first couple years, he learned to elevate his compete level after his sophomore year.
