When you look at the injuries and replacements for Canada, you can see everything you need to see.
The depth of great players for Canada drove our supposed leadership in to building a team that "could beat Canada".

It certainly doesn't sound like they believed just putting their best team together would work, they were going to outsmart 'em:help:

Our best days are ahead of us, and the best days of these events are ahead of us with the ridiculous amount of young talent around the world.

Canada was just way better, from management on.

I can't take anything you guys say seriously when you put Kesler as a me me selfish type player

He's probably the best example of a player that sacrifices and elevates his play when representing his country

Loses his cool + Takes selfish penalties sometimes...Look in comparison at Crosby, he takes all kinds of abuse and hardly ever retaliates...

Just playing Devil's Advocate there bud...Kesler gives his all out there on the ice...and crossing the line on occasion, sometimes going way over it, ( see his hit on Weber in first exhibition game which probably woulda warranted a 1 game suspension had IIHF guys been calling all the shots ) while not totally excusable, is still pretty much par for the course...for a proactive, truculent guy like him

Yanks don't have luxury of leaving a guy like Kesler at home. TC, with their embarassment of riches, does...talented guys with a tendency to lose their cool and take needless penalties may be on the outside looking in, when it comes to our A team

I think Canada should have two evenly drafted teams next time, rather than the under 23 team. That way the US gets the services of Jones, Mathews, etc.. Canada still has enough talent for two teams...they could be called the Crosbys and the Mcdavids.

Ah yes, while I was watching the game and USA was down 4-1 I was thinking "You know what team USA needs? More character. Not game breakers who are dynamic in the offensive zone, specifically ones that just recently led the Stanley Cup winning team in goals and points and has a track record of being a P/PG player in the playoffs and in international tournaments."

This is the National Hockey League not the National Thespian League.

I'm guessing the majority of "internet experts" were right on the money considering team USA went exactly the way everyone said they would. It was almost too predictable.

Here, here! Couldn't have said it better myself...

Having Torts as coach ruined any chance Team USA had to develop chemistry before the tournament even started. No one ****ing likes that guy and it shows. The players are basically wishing their summer was longer and they could focus on the NHL training/training camps, not playing for Torts.

Please keep Tortorella far away from future US squads, and for once field a team based on skill. I hope Matthews, Eichel, Gadreau and co. have smarter management behind them when it's their turn to suit up for their country.

Yankees are simply not good at hockey. They don't have the hockey culture like Canada, Finland, Sweden and Russia. They try hard but they can't.

Who just won the Art Ross?

How good would Canada vs Team Europe final be? What will be the ratings?

Ratings would be less than ideal...

Team Europe, with all due respect, is a pretender NOT ( barring a mini miracle on ice ) a contender...I mean they're not chopped liver, even so...

NO WAY USA's A-/minus Team ( cause that's what they were ), if they bring their A game, if they're not listless/sleepwalking, if they don't suffer from Brain Freeze, if they're tactically sound and smart steada taking crazy risks and trying to force things thru clogged neutral zone which weren't there, if they make a few sound, in game, adjustments, yadda yadda...

Has any business losing to THAT TEAM...Sorry if that sounded disrespectful Euros...But Team Euro loses today...cause TC, to a man, will be anxious to show Babcock they can play a full sixty minutes/clean things up...

And they ( T Euro ) crashes and burns in the semis too...Look what YG's did to them, went thru them like hot knife thru butter...BUT then, almost as an act of mercy, let up...it being ONLY exhibition and all...

I think Canada could ice a second team that would still beat this us team.. they are just so deep.....

Who just won the Art Ross?

How's his Art Ross working out for him in this tourney?

Canada has more talent, and deserve to win the game, but is everyone forgetting that the US hit three posts in tha last 8 minutes?

Yeah. Even if Team USA brought all those players everyone's complaining were left off the list, there is a notable dip in talent compared to Team Canada.

Chin up Yank, Gap IS Closing...As head to head U20/U18 ( alas, we never see best on best, CAN vs USA ,in U18's ) matchups, and likewise as recent NHL drafts, and that YG Team, attests...

There's definitely a light at the end of the tunnel...and it isn't an oncoming train...there's a glorious future ahead for USAH...

I think an American winning the Art Ross somewhat contests the notion that "Yankees aren't good at hockey", wouldn't you agree?

Canada has a more talented and deeper team, there's no shame in losing to them. I'm hoping the gap will narrow somewhat in the next 10-20 years. The US is finally starting to produce quality centers, which they've long been lacking. And hopefully management will wisen up a bit w.r.t. "character" and "grit".

But to say the country and its citizens are no good at hockey is a knee jerk reaction.

I'm happy we won, but I also wanted the U.S. to advance. Bittersweet victory for me.

No need to be down American fans, no shame losing to the best.

I do think if the NHL goes to the 2018 Olympics.. or the next incarnation of the World Cup, the US will definitely be a powerhouse.

Coach Peter Laviolette :naughty:

Wheeler - Pavelski - Kane
Pacioretty - Matthews - Gaudreau
Van Rimsdyk - Eichel - Kessel
Okposo - Stepan - Larkin

Suter - McDonagh
Carlson - Byfuglien
Jones - Faulk

Schneider
Quick

Extra: Galchenyuk/T.Johnson, Morgan Reilly/Gostisbere, Bishop

Too old: Parise, Kesler

Yankees are simply not good at hockey. They don't have the hockey culture like Canada, Finland, Sweden and Russia. They try hard but they can't.

The hockey culture in Massachusetts, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, northern New York is every bit as good as the countries you mentioned.

The problem is USA has 3 other major sports that compete in terms of TV time and playing time.

In other areas of the country hockey is irrelevant outside of regions with an NHL team. But those areas don't produce NHL talent anyway. For example Team NA has 4 players from the Pittsburgh area because hockey is super popular here. However, if you drive 1.5 hours south to West Virginia no one even knows what hockey is.

Sorry, USA can't have him

feel really bad for the US but the roster really was questionable with the absence of kessel, faulk and others.

It sucks for the fans that were hoping to see some more of that preliminary game against a dynamo Team Canada. The US team itself is bad, and should feel bad. Lookin' at you, Torts.

Yeah, lucky wasn't the impression I had watching the game.

The US had some late momentum but Canada clearly took their foot off the gas when it was in the bag.

Exactly what I was thinking. They did not want to let that game get out of hand and be a 6-1 finale. It would not have went well when the regular season start I think. But truth be told, wish they had won 12-1. USA management needs to be sacked and new people put in. What a joke.

Torts. like a spoiled child craves attention, craves the spotlight...somebody called him a BLOWHARD...

Probably the most apropos word for him

Who just won the Art Ross?
