Oh..and the new girl doing the promotions was in pre-season form as well. They had a question to put the players in order of their numbers, and she said.

"SEAMAN, Gleason, Faulk". Someone must have said something to her because later on she pronounced Semin's name correctly.

She might have had something else on her mind :naughty:

Man! It's been a long summer without hockey. I'm glad to be consuming it's intense goodness again. I could care less about the score considering they scored 4 goals and that's without their reigning goal scorer. Preseason for a reason. Love it.

wowee boy what a game! the pnc was rockin, good to see the building packed for the big game!

gotta say, our boys went out and gave the blue jacks a rough ride. westy was throwing his weight around all game and even added a HUGE assist. take that tuuka rask's brother (hope you enjoy charlotte). staalsy was in midseason form. had a solid half wink half smirk after his goal.

must say though, p. dissapointed in alexei semens performance. so selfish cant believe he was wearing the storied A tonight. c'mon man, glen wesley wore that letter, and you are going to go and delay the game like that? you ruined the game for everyone in attendance.

sickening.

feelin good about the season #illhangupandlisten

So what happened? How can someone who score 2 goals be selfish and let the team down.

Maybe they are referring to this: Team leading by 1 goal. Semin is warned by refs that he can't tuck his jersey in or it's a penalty. Semin chooses to ignore warning and does it again which results in a delay of game penalty which leads to the game tying goal as he is leaving the penalty box.

It's pre-season so frankly it's meaningless, but I'm guessing that's what they are referring to.

So, we played without Faulk, Sekera and Hainsey and we had d-zone issues? Hmm.

Also, since the coaches are looking at the players' backs all night on the bench, I think they should be responsible for making sure their jerseys all look nice and sharp and are not tucked in.

Oh, and we like to talk about a player being "invisible" if he doesn't do anything either positive or negative, but has Riley Nash been *literally* invisible this preseason? I have not seen or heard one word about the guy. Are we just moving on?

Note: There's an awful lot of sarcasm in this post (but not the Nash stuff).

Based off the hash tag at the end, it looks more like a parody of the 99.9 callers

I feel like Riley was a "right place, right time", kind of guy. The organization obviously values, inexplicably to this point, Drayson Bowman and others ahead of Nash. Foretelling of his secured roster spot was greatly exaggerated. I feel like he has been relegated to first true center injury callup, if not outright fighting with Welsh and Sutter for 4th line minutes. To say that the bottom six without counting Westgarth and Dwyer is hazy at best would be an understatement. Literally 10 players fighting for those 4 spots.

Probably true, but I think that if he get's healthy, he starts the season as the 4th line C. I predict a 4th line of something like Bowman, Nash, Dwyer to start the season.

My thoughts on various players:

- Lindholm looked fine to me. He pursues the puck aggressively, makes smart plays away from the puck, and goes to the boards with vigor. I wouldn't mind seeing him stay here in a role similar to Nash's.

- Gerbe outskated the hell out of some guys. At one point he knocked a Jacket completely off the puck, which is impressive considering he gave up half a foot to that guy. I think he'll make this team with that effort level.

- Bowman looks more like a 4th liner every time I see him. He has a lot of tools, but at the end of the day he makes little to no impact on the game.

- Dalpe was totally invisible. He better bring it big-time in the next couple of games or he could be done here in a hurry.

- I felt for Terry, who had a good game but killed one of our PPs with a turnover and penalty. He skated quite a bit on the PK, so maybe that's a niche he's working on.

- Murphy is a phenomenal offensive talent. He has his downside, in terms of turnovers and getting overpowered by larger players, but he really does have that Coffey-like ceiling that we heard about when we drafted him. At the very least he is ready to be a PP specialist.

- Ward was decent but not good enough. He didn't get a lot of shots early, other than wide-open one timers on the backside post, and then got a lot more rubber as the game went on. Not quite the ideal for a guy who's playing his first game in over 6 months. But he has to be better than he was tonight.

- Gleason and Komisarek were not adequate. They skated together and got pinned down frequently. Komisarek especially has to be smarter.

- Westgarth is a total waste of space. Bush league garbage player who doesn't fill the narrow role in which he has a small amount of value. I begrudge him his 5 minutes more than I ever begrudged Chad his first-line minutes. It's infuriating that we will likely waive someone in order to protect this guy's gifted roster spot.

Overall not a terrible game, very preseason-ish. Muller didn't sound impressed with Sutter and made some vague references to intensity level (I think that they were pointed at Komi and Gleason) so we will hopefully see an edgier team next time out.

My thoughts on various players: <snip>

Your observations match mine pretty well. I mentioned earlier and wanted to repeat here on Lindholm. I like his game, but he needs to build more strength (not surprising given his age). I think we were a bit spoiled with Skinner because he came into the league with lot of core strength even at a young age.

I didn't feel too badly for Terry. He played a solid game and because it's pre-season, Muller stuck him on the point for the PP. Once he was beat, it was the right play to take the penalty to avoid the breakaway. I doubt he'd be used in that capacity during the season if he made the squad so I suspect that play won't have much bearing on his fate. He definitely stood out on that line over Dalpe and Welsh.

I forgot to mention Westgarth. He just can't skate. On one play, he tried to do a behind the back dumping when cycling and whiffed on it, then fell down and Columbus went the other way and scored their first goal.

If Dvorak shows as much as Gerbe did, it's going to be a tough road for the likes of Dalpe, Welsh, Boychuk, etc..

My thoughts (only stayed 2 periods).

I couldn't care less about the score in the game. I also couldn't care less to see what the Staal's and Semin's do in a pre-season game. But saying that, I think it is worth noting their chemistry looked just as good.

- Was most excited to see Lindholm play. He's a bit bigger than I expected - of course playing with Skinner and Gerbe probably added to that. Really liked what I saw. You can see that hockey sense - truly looks like a great two way played. I noticed him defensively a few times, which is saying something for a forward.

- Echo what was said about Gerbe. Really liked what he brought.

- Ward was ok. A few of those were nothing he could do - the Gaborik goal was a sick shot and a sick pass. I mean I would say if you gave every goalie in the league a chance on that shot, it's stopped maybe twice. Still though, I heard "C'mon Ward" from the fans. Gotta love it. But he certainly was rusty. Nothing different than normal for a preseason game coming off injury or not.

- Komi made one really big hit but for the most part, was a little lost. Granted he was playing top pair situations which won't be his game, but he certainly wasn't fantastic. I really think the defensive situation is really interesting this year. You know Gleason Faulk Sekera and Hainsey are every night starts baring injury / something crazy. But Harrison Komi and Murphy all bring such different elements - you think that Murphy (who looked pretty dang good) is a natural fit due to his PP ability without Pits on the roster, but then you lose all the size with Komi. I think Harry might be the odd man out more than not.

- Dalpe was such a disapointment. When I don't notice scorers in a game with half of the guys on both sides are AHL players, that's an issue.

I was relatively cool with the tuck call last night, because I know Semin was warned about it first.

Then I get on HF this morning and see this.

That **** makes me furious. They're really going to decide games on which players' jerseys slide up their girdles when they shoot? Seriously? Is this a ****ing professional league!?

What is this, the NFL? Wasn't one of the celebrated unique things about Gretzky the fact that he tucked one side?

It's always disappointing when personal self-image issues pervade into judgments, decisions, and actions, to the point where they poison the product that they sell with their personality disorder.
