#87 Sidney Crosby Milestone Thread - History will be made (MOST FACEOFFS WON IN NHL HISTORY 2025-01-07))

two insane (secondary) assists by Sid so far tonight. This is why stat watchers have no business discussing Crosby.

You could easily look at the stat sheet and say “well they’re both secondary assists, did he even affect the play?”

When anyone actually watching can see the top-tier plays he’s making. He’ll end this game no lower than 46 points in 43 games, and it’s only the 1st.

Crosbys best play was the assist on the 1st goal he never was credited with. There is no evidence from the video footage Rust touched that puck so I have no idea why Sid was not credited with an assist on that play! (hopefully they will correct it after the game as when they took away Sids assist when we believed he had passed Mario) :D

We'd be looking at almost 1900 points if not for that horrible concussion in his peak. When people look back, they'll see his trophies and not understand the hype. Thanks Brooks Orpik for breaking his jaw at the end of regular season while he was running away with Art Ross and MVP again.

Remember that time when someone posted Sid was done as a PPG player? Good times in that thread.
I mean, if he scores 12pts in next 20 games then he’s only sitting at 59 pts in 63 games…so earlier comments doubting PPG when he was at 8pts in 9 games or something were odd, but almost as odd the other way now. Just takes a quick hot or cold streak for things to change when you hover this close. He plays for a bad team too, so you never know.

I think he gets past Ron Francis at best before the end of his career. Had he missed less time, he could have hit 2000 points.
Agree, passing Francis, if that is the best he could do if he retires after current contract…question is whether he would….i think he probably does, in don’t see him as someone wanting to stick around for points so if it doesn’t look like any chance of winning, he’d retire. Maybe with different team though? That’s also unlikely

He has an outside shot at Howe if he retires after his extension. 40 points for the rest of this year plus 80 points the next two years seems reasonable for him. That puts him at 1,842, just 8 points behind Howe.

But that requires him to be injury free and not slow down, and with the team sucking he wont get empty net freebees, he has only 1 or 2 empty net points this season. I´d say he needs to play at least one more season after his contract ends to have a chance at Howe. And even that might be hard if he slows down and has some injuries which is pretty usual when players come up in age, Sid has a lot of mileage in his body!

I guess the main question would be how driven Sid can be to play if the Pens fall off a cliff and Sid needs to play 1 or 2 season as one of the absolute worst teams in the league. Rakell and Rust should be able to squeeze out another 2 seasons of good production. If he can stay motivated through that and still enjoy playing he has a good chance of moving up the list! (knock on wood)
