#87 Sidney Crosby Milestone Thread - History will be made (MOST FACEOFFS WON IN NHL HISTORY 2025-01-07))

Sid now 12th all time in assists

If he could get(knock on wood) 30 more this season
He would pass Dionne, Howe and Yzerman for 9th all time.
6 up to Dionne 15 to Howe and 29 to Yzerman.

God i love numbers and statistics :)

Will he do it?

At this point, I think the last major statistical milestones for Crosby to reach will be breaking into the top 10 all time in assists and top 5 all time in points. Barring disaster, he will get to assist #1050 this season to reach the top 10. However, he needs just about 1800 total points to break into the top 5 all time. He's got about two and a half seasons left - can he do it?

I don't see Sid scoring enough goals to get to 700 in his career or surpass Lemieux in that category, though I do think he will surpass Mario in total points.

Having a ten year head start and leads as small as 350 assists and 600 points is far from impressive. As with every other milestone, McDavid will clear him 100-200 games quicker as time marches on.
Or McD breaks his leg next game and retires without scoring another point Who knows?

Btw, did Crosby flirt with your wife or something? Or why such an obsessive need to knock everything Sid does down? :sarcasm:

I think there are four major statistical milestones that Crosby has a realistic chance of attaining:

Barring a significant injury, Crosby will surpass Sakic and Gretzky this season. He's 173 points away from tying Mr. Hockey for the all-time record. He could get there during the 2026-27 season (assuming he doesn't leave the Pens or suffers a serious injury).

Crosby is currently 11th all-time with 1,241 primary points (goals plus primary assists). At some point next year, he'll likely become only the 10th player in NHL history to reach 1,300 primary points. It's conceivable he could end up as high as 4th place (but it also depends on how Ovechkin does - he's currently ahead by 60).

I don't think that people realize how strong Crosby's offensive production has been. He's already 7th (and would jump ahead of Messier, Dionne and Yzerman with any reasonable adjustment for the scoring environment). He'll almost certainly reach 1,100 ES points, which would rank 5th all-time.

two insane (secondary) assists by Sid so far tonight. This is why stat watchers have no business discussing Crosby.

You could easily look at the stat sheet and say “well they’re both secondary assists, did he even affect the play?”

When anyone actually watching can see the top-tier plays he’s making. He’ll end this game no lower than 46 points in 43 games, and it’s only the 1st.
