They did what they were supposed to do. They got two lottery picks.

They both f***ing bombed because the organization doesn't know what it's doing.

They have to figure it out before they think about any kind of timeline to move forward.

I don't trust them to not just f*** up Perreault now.

The last thing this org needs is for yet another top prospect to catch Panarinitis.

Well what is the organization supposed to do? Same fans that complained that Laf and Kakko were being taught defense at the expense of offense have been complaining Laf isn't good defensively.
I really couldn't give a toss.

My problem is he's not that good at offense.

I don't think it's necessarily an offense/defense thing. None of the forwards on this team play defense and tbh we might be served to get that on the menu actually.

The problem, I think, and @LokiDog has touched on this, is that our team culture is very much that you're either in the band or you're one of the roadies. And when young players finally get put in the band, they play like roadies because they did it for 3, 4 years.

The top half of the lineup plays grabass offense, and the bottom half of the lineup plays basically right but they don't play offense at all.

The perfect microcosm of how we operate is Filip Chytil. I love the way he plays and I think he pretty much does everything right. He's never been in the band. He's 25 years old and he's still a roadie. I don't wanna hear about the injuries. When he plays, it's on the 3rd line. There's no excuse. He's a good player, but at the end of the day, he's probably around a 35-point guy. He was never given a chance to let his offense shine. Like silverfish always said, if you try to make a bottom sixer, you're going to get one.

And again, it's not a defense-first thing. It's a confidence thing. Berard came up with a much needed jolt of confidence. He's willing to grab the puck and use his shot. What did he get for it? He barely played. How do you think he's going to react to that? He's going to stop playing with balls offensively.

People gave Torts shit for being too tough, but Carl Hagelin added a jolt to this team and Torts immediately gave him almost 16 a game. And that poor bastard couldn't play defense if he had a loaded gun.

We need to marry skill and direct play and have three lines that can do both. Not a top six that's useless at one and a bottom six that's useless at the other.

It's been multiple coaches now. It's become a culture and they need to take active steps to remove it.

This right here is the biggest issue. We can all sulk about how we got unlucky with how Kakko and Lafreniere were not generational top picks, but this organization certainly didn't do their best to get everything out of them.

If this was Tinder, your post would get a super like!

That would be my first on Tinder in about three years, so thank you.

The amount of assets they'd need to try to improve the roster would just about bankrupt the system. Two marquee trades for a forward and defenseman would likely see the Rangers out Perreault, Othmann, and 2 more 1st round picks.

Half measures on players like Cobb that are cheaper don't improve the overall build of the roster enough.

All the younger players we hoped might take steps forward this season have not except Cuylle. Everyone else in their mid 20's has stagnated or regressed.

So it's not an ideal situation. You can go try to make big Yandle/MSL trades but then you're really in the shitter if we don't win.

Younger players not developing properly is a root issue. They also have no chance to evolve because there is no oxygen for them in this org. The country club players and country club management and Old Boy's club coaches suck it all up and trickle down shit. The country club players are country club players because they've somehow survived, or made their way to the top, so they feel entitled. This is the famed [NYR] "Process", to quote Chris Kreider. On top of that they are supported in their entitlement by management that simply want to win the next game, with little thought for the long term. If the winning stops management either A. coddles the stars some more to get them back on track or B. hammers the top players, but there still is no room for the kids to grow.

The NYR is a toxic org and good luck to anyone who think this will change.

I WISH one of our top prospects caught Paranitis, they're all trying to be Jesper Fast instead
I mean, Panarin is a star and I've been critical of people blaming Panarin for Lafreniere struggling. I think Lafreniere has some of his own issues that aren't necessarily to do with the team, but that's another issue.

I do get it though. Panarin plays like a f***ing idiot.

On that, I do blame the team. I like Panairn's personality and I do think he's a buy-in guy. He hasn't been held to a standard here. He does what he wants because he's Artemi Panarin. He'll continue to be rewarded with all the ice time he wants after dropping that stinker that he did last night.

I hate goalies lmao. I will never support them again.

“But if we didn’t give Igor the Scrooge McDuck gold coin pool contract, who would play goalie for us?”

I don’t know. Go down to your laundromat and ask some random guys if they have plans this week. One of them can probably put up a .910 save % over a several game stretch.

Kreider on the 4 on 3 PP in OT is still infuriating to me the next day. Edstrom is 6'6 and scored in the last 2, but we need the Hunchback being fed chances. The culture is so bad that they go 4-1-2 and they are all happy in the room again because their friends wont get traded imminently. The team will be better when the core guys are gone. It's going to shock people how much better our young players look when they arent being used to cater to the top players.

Literally Matt Murray.

The guy is a halfway decent AHL goalie and he was Ken Dryden for two Cup runs.

For some posters here, if Igor doesn't steal the game playing out of his mind and we lose, then he played like shit, no middle ground. Regardless if he did or not. He was average yesterday, but he didn't cost us the game, the game was cost by the top 9 not showing up again and doing nothing on the scoresheet. You have 9 players to blame before Igor on the loss.

Yeah this is the biggest issue with signing Panarin.

It's not Panarin himself per se but its all the shit that comes along with catering to that player. I don't care for his brand of hockey, especially since it turns into high risk-low reward BS anytime he starts to panic.

Want your young guys to get PP minutes? Too bad, they're going to Blackwell and Strome instead bc they're Panarin's hand picked choices.

Need actual deadline reinforcements that fill a need for you team? You're going to get Patrick Kane who makes zero sense because he's friends with Panarin and they played well together a decade ago.

If people want to point to an issue in culture and locker room bs, look no further than this guy who has some how avoided the spotlight even though he's been front and center for anyone who has been paying attention.

Then you get to how he's a historic playoff under performer who makes Joe Thornton look like Gretzky and the entire saga is a massive failure. They need to cut bait ASAP if he's agreeable to it.

Jesper Fast actually shows up in the playoffs so that tracks.

Literally Matt Murray.

Matt Murray was a very good NHL goalie until the injuries happened.

Their 2017 run was the biggest example of NHL doo doo voodoo I've ever seen though. That team puck lucked their way through 4 rounds.

When your defense is a bunch of undersized softies and your core players treat defense as a suggestion, it forces you into paying a goalie that has shown the ability to have success in a shooting gallery. Everything is a culture issue with this team. They are too proud to be held accountable at this point.

Edstrom is another guy where I'm like "you know, he can do some stuff" and he can't crack 10 minutes.

I know his production at lower levels tracks with a 4th liner but he's had to grow into an awkward frame and he's exceeded expectations at every level.

Why not experiment with him? There are parts of the lineup that couldn't get much worse.

People made fun of Fast's offensive ability but the guy has never been a 4th liner anywhere. He also reminds me of Brian Boyle who would give you 13 goals like clockwork. Edstrom has some pop as they would say in baseball.

Well then there's the 2022 Avalanche who were actively taking a big minus in GSAA during the tournament.

There have been some brutal Cup winners in this league. The 2017 Pens are up there. The 2018 Caps did the same thing. Vegas sucks. The 2019 Blues have to be the worst in sports history -- they literally won the Stanley Cup for no reason. They didn't even have elite talent to skate by on like the other teams did.

Shit like that is why we keep going to war with mediocre rosters.

I blame this whole stupid league.

Because Jesper Fast is who Panarin wants/needs on his opposite wing. They end up trying to be Jesper Fast on one hand and on the other they try to emulate Panarin's perimeter setup plays. But they are not Panarin and they are not Fast. They will never be Panarin nor is it their job to be Jesper Fast. They need to be the best version of themselves but it's not possible if they have to carry Panarin's jock strap. This is the lethal and highly infectious condition of Panarinitis.

Panarin is a first ballot HHOF, but there is a shadow side to his game and that side is not beneficial to the Rangers long term.

The last few games we've been playing ok. Its true Laf is in a funk and Igor had a bad night. But Carrick, Edstrom, Borgen, Trocheck and Zibanejad all playing ok. Rempe also provides positive energy. Kreider was a bit of a dud as well. In general I still think we have a decent shot at the playoffs but even if we make it I'd be surprised if we win the 1st round. A lot centers on Igors hot and coldness and lack of across the board top tier offense. I wouldnt mind seeing Kreider and Zibanejad being traded though w Zibs nmc thats unlikely. Weirdly, I feel Zibs as having a better chance than Kreider at turning it around. Kreider just seems lost. Laf is still young, just signed a new contract and I think its his timing thats off and eventually he'll get back in the groove. The way players are put under the microscope and subjected to relentless criticism here in NY may get into his head and affect his confidence, i'd rather people give him a break but not happening. Thats why Im so glad I follow Napoli in Serie A who have a nice 1st place position and unlike the Rangers just know how to dial up the pressure and win. Its good to have another team on the side to root for bc the Rangers are just setting us up for dissapointment but it could change they did beat NJ and Vegas who are right up there with the best in the league. Carrick was really noteworthy. Love him, thats my biggest + thing I took away from last night.
