I have trouble not voting for the guy who's going to end the season around 40-90. Even with his season last year, I never expected him to be in the running for Art Ross, Rocket and Hart down the stretch. Obviously those are no longer realistic, but he is right up there.

He's going to end the season on PPG while playing all 82 games - we haven't had that in years. Can't look past that in my opinion.

its arguments like this that frustrate me. did anyone not expect marchand to be one of our 3 best forwards this year? he had a career best year and deserves his mvp consideration but thats not what a trophy named 7th player is for.

i actually heard a numnut on thr radio talking about the norris vote. the idiot said it looked like burns was going to runaway with the award... but you look at the scoring and karlsson is right there and hedberg is in the mix.

for the norris trophy and this numnut is checking out the scoring race.???

sad thing is this numnut votes

you know next time i vote for leader of the country i think ill cast my vote for pizza because honestly its my favorite food and sometimes it tastes so good i just love it.... wait... what? oh i guess pizza has nothing to do with who should run the country... scratch this last paragraph please... my mistake

I think you need to examine the criteria for the award because his interpretation is closer to it than yours.

It is for the player who went above and beyond the call of duty, and exceeded the expectations of its fans over the course of that NHL season.

You're getting too hung up on the name of the award. It's not like the 10th player awards in baseball where it's more of an unsung hero type award.

For many, Marchand far exceeded their expectations.....honestly, who expected him to be among the league leaders in scoring and points at the end of the year? He wouldn't be my personal pick, but I wouldn't be surprised or disappointed if he did win.

canadas income tax was created with the radio act and targeted to pay the war debt

the stanley cup was given as a gift to canada to be awarded to the best hockey team in canada

just because later generations have allowed an illegle tax to continue... or a cup that belonged to canada to be claimed by the nhl and given to american teams... doesnt make it right

im fully aware of the way the current sponsor of the 7th player award has chosen to frame the wording

but honestly if a new sponsor started handing out the nobel peace prize to whoever could eat the most hot dogs at cooney island.... would you be ok with that?

sometimes we should fight for history... a name sometimes does mean something... nobel peace prize should be given to someone that promotes peace... not someone that eats hotdogs

You didn't an hour ago. That much was clear by the way you worded your posts here and the Marchand thread. Now you do.

Right or wrong doesn't matter. The criteria is the criteria and it's been that way for MANY years.

It is impressive, though, that Moore continues to be an effective energy player at 36 years of age.

I remember when he made that bad pass in his own zone and everyone here was ready to slay him.

you seam to completely miss my point... I'm saying just because someone wants to change something to make it simpler for simpler minded people doesn't make it right

the 7th player award was named for a reason...

twisting it today to suit current twitter minded people doesn't make it right

but thanks for the debate... and for trying to tell me what my knowledge is when I specifically made my entire debate about how wrong it is to change things like this and pervert the true history

I think it absolutely is Carlo, but I'd guess the odds of him actually getting it are maybe 50/50

The player that most exceeded expectations, people.

Marchand and Pasta being prolific scorers doesn't shock me. Progression. DoMo being a very solid 2-way player doesn't surprise me. McQuaid being tough and a bit more steady doesn't shock me. A 20 year old second round pick stepping in and filling a gaping hole on the top pair the whole season...definitely exceeded expectations. Heavy lifting.

But people just think it's a "had the best year" trophy...Marchand will get it. Book it.

Twisting it today? When exactly do you think it was changed because guys like Terry O'Reilly, Derek Sanderson, Rick Middleton, Barry Pederson, Cam Neeley, and Ted Donato all won it decades before twitter was invented and Bill Guerin and Tim Thomas each won it twice?

I am thinking the same as well. if Marchand doesnt get suslended and hits 40 goals I think he is in the desvering as well

Why would Marchand get the 7h player award

They should have two awaysds

1st player

7th player

It may be time to scratch this award the definition from the days of Fred Stanfield, Don Marcotte, and even John Carter unsung contributors to first Liners on the Canadian World Cup gold medal team is absurd

disagree, I expected Marchand to play as he did this year, I think a guy like Moore, Carlo and Krug all either suprised with their game or elevated their game to play even better than I anticipated/expected

These posts completely ignore the fact that a "popular" player can exceed expectations. I find that way of thinking odd. A vote for Marchand can be made without being the "popular" vote. Some folks here have gone out of their way to explain that they'd be voting for him because he exceeded their expectations this year......just what the award is supposed to be for.

We get it. Maybe he didn't exceed YOUR expectations this year. So don't vote for him. But don't make the mistake of saying that everyone that votes for Marchand is voting for him simply because he's popular/scores a lot/is the MVP/etc.

Just to be clear, he wouldn't get my vote. I can certainly understand why he would and should get votes though for reasons that align with the criteria for the award.

And that's just fine. But just because Marchand didn't exceed YOUR expectations doesn't mean he didn't exceed other people's.

You can't really "disagree" with someone saying he exceeded theirs. He either did or he didn't to them. It's not like I can disagree with you when you say Krug exceeded YOUR expectations this year.

Couldn't he win both? I never expected him to be a 40 goal, 90 point player is all.
