I exaggerated when I called him a goon, but they guy probably has less skill than anyone in our top 12 when Kreider is healthy, as well as some guys in Hartford. I was pissed when Dorsett replaced him mostly due to chemistry and Dorsett's lack of discipline. Fast would be much better. The best place to put him is with Stepan and Nash if they are putting him in the top 9, because of the quality of play of the other guys and because Stepan and Nash play a similar game. MSL had problem when he had legit top 9ers on his line, what will he do now?

Have you watched Fast since his injury, or are you purely going off his 8 game stint to start the season? He is not ready, nor can you use a liability like Miller on defense at this point in the season.

I'm not saying it hasn't been a disappointing season, but I think his performance will always be underrated because it isn't flashy, just like a guy like Zherdev's will be overrated because he was.

Spot on, it's the little plays and his iq that really set him apart. As far as disappointing , yes his start was dismal, but he does have a career high in points already and is hitting his stride at the perfect time. It also seems like his skating has improved a bit!

He racks up a lot of quiet points playing on the first line, which is why he is "underrated" as you say. The guy gets a ton of ice time and plays with our best player(s) every single game. He's a very useful player, for sure, but certainly not underrated, imo. He was overrated and now he's rated on par with who he is.

It's been suggested that he be traded for Jussi Jokinen who was waived and then traded for nothing with salary retained a few months later.

Including playoffs, this will be Derek Stepan's 326th consecutive NHL game without missing one due to injury. I believe that is longer ever than the Girardi streak.

Impressive.

My statements were as a consensus, not a one off, there will always be idiots on these boards. And regardless of his "rating" by fans here, he should truly only be traded if we are getting

A) a bona-fide #1 center
B) A potential future #1 center, ala Girgensons.

Obviously, with Stepan as the center piece of a package.

He may put up a 70 point season here and there, but he's not a true #1.

What a random/arguable name to put there.

Not the place to discuss this, but Girgensons certainly has the potential to be an elite #1.

You really think he's going to be an "elite 1C"? Great player, but he seems more like a two-way, jack of all trades than an "elite 1C".

I really doubt he's more than a 60-65 point guy in his prime.

Agree with this...anyways.. MSL will drop the gloves tonight

I saw something on the pre-game thread about how Torts still lives in the U.S.A. He lives in Point Roberts, Washington which is on a small peninsula just below the 49th parallel. The interesting thing is an American who wants to get there by car from Seattle has to go through customs twice. I actually live on Vancouver Island and about half the island is below the 49th parallel. It really makes no sense how the British and Americans created the border in this region.

What is it, 2 or 3am there? I'd have slept from like 10-2/3 if I were you guys.

Almost 3 am now. Worked until 11 pm and didnt get home until midnight. Didnt want to chance oversleeping, so ive stayed up hehe.

I was going by reports from Hartford mostly. Also, why is Miller scapegoated for his D when the whole team was horrible defensively against Calgary. One of the best, if not the best D pairings in the league looked like **** that game.

And fine, keep Carcillo, why not keep him with Nash and Stepan whose style he fits more?

Unless you are considering #1 Centers as people who can take over the game, there aren't many of them in the NHL. But Stepan from a point production perspective is certainly a #1. He will always get by on his great IQ

I'm stumped about this too.

I really can't believe Miller is being scratched yet again.
