At this point you almost have to wonder if there's a possible plan to have him act as a depth player or legitimate reinforcement in the 2025 playoffs after the KHL season ends, essentially acting like a very late season trade acquisition.
Ideal, yes. But I'm not gonna hold my breath until he's signed and here.
But maybe he can be the next Ken Morrow -- win an international hockey medal then sign with us and win the Cup.
That's clearly down memory lane....in Morrow's case, he didn't have the International League experience that Nikisin will have but yet was a great contributor in their first Cup win (IMO Morrow was a GREAT defensive dman <who also scored key goals> that played at a defensive HOF level until his knees prematurely gave out).
What would happen if Nikishin hopped on a plane to Raleigh tomorrow and stated he was here to play now?? Just a random thought….

The nhl honours KHL contracts so he would not be eligible to play while under contract with SKA. His contract either needs to expire or bought out to get him here sooner.

I honestly thought “great he’s got a hard slapshot so his name’s Boom Boom big whoop” but frankly these highlights I’ve seen lately have looked a lot more like your Laines Ovechkins and Stamkoses than your Brent Burnses… puck just explodes off the tape.

I honestly can't recall the last time we had a player who just has a new highlight clip or two every week that reinforces the mindset that he really might be that good of a prospect. Every time I think we're over-hyping him, there's another clip or 3 that makes you wonder if the top tier hype is for real

Good lord. This 1 clip showed a nice passing touch (sure it was a simple pass), his skating (for a big man), and his finish/shot (W00F!).
