Has any team ever won the stanley cup or even gotten to the finals without having a named captain? I'm just curious.

I don't think that the lack of a polyester C on someone's shirt is going to be the difference between winning or losing a Stanley Cup… This team has plenty of leadership. Staal, Girardi, and Mcdonagh are experienced home grown high character guys. Richards, MSL, and Nash have all been captains in their careers…

The official answer seems to be NO, based on wiki nhl captains. If they start bringing it up WHEN we get to the finals I say we slap a C on top of Staal's A and be done with it.
